Fear Of The Dark
A dark sojourn into the world of nightmares.
The sun went down to hell and the night wrapped its cloak around me,
And the wolf did howl and I was feared for my destiny,
Something was prowling in the shadows, creeping slowly up on me,
And my skin began to crawl from my nyctophobic misery.
Fraught with fear, I carried on toward my journey's end,
My spine was tingling, my mind distressed, goose pimples broke my skin,
Shivers racked my body and hair stood ridged on my neck,
I could feel the eyes of terror watching me as I walked on.
I had to pass the graveyard with its gnarled and leafless trees,
And its creeping, ghostly shadows drifting through the gloom,
The wind crying the wails of the victims of death's disease,
Seemed to hiss the hiss of evil scorn that heralded my doom.
All at once, I heard a cry, 'twas not of man nor beast nor ghost,
I turned to set my eyes upon the most ghoulish, ghastly thing,
Perched upon a Gothic cross within the graveyard's shadows cast,
It cawed a cackle like a crow and spread it's bat-like wings.
It drew back its lips to reveal the sharpened teeth of a carnivore,
It's taloned, claw like fingers, designed to lacerate its prey,
This ravenous predator, no doubt voracious in consumption,
Was on the prowl for victims and it's eyes were set on me.
The evil stare and growling snarl, held me in its steadfast grip,
A hideous, skeletal zombie demon, pealing flesh and dripping blood,
Its repulsive, decaying, corpse like arms, reached out to grab at me,
With instinctive reflex, I screamed and ran for all that I was worth.
I ran as fast as I could run and ne'er stopped for a breath,
I kept running 'til I reached my house and the safety of my bed,
Still shaking with anxious nervousness, I bolted fast, the door,
My mind exhausted with the trauma, I closed my eyes and slept.
I was awakened by the bright sun shining through my window,
How silly had I been to be frightened of the illusion I had seen?
I looked out of the window to greet the morning with a yawn,
But wait! What the hell was that, perched upon my tree?
And the wolf did howl and I was feared for my destiny,
Something was prowling in the shadows, creeping slowly up on me,
And my skin began to crawl from my nyctophobic misery.
