Fatigue Causes in Women

Temporary causes of fatigue in women happen to be less pronounced and concerning than the ones which are responsible for making the condition a long-lasting problem.
Fatigue is a normal experience with everyone. It is completely normal to return home washed-out after a long day's work. However, if you have a good night's sleep and feel as good as new the next morning, then you have nothing to worry about. Such temporary episodes of fatigue usually have identifiable causes and remedies too. However, what is more serious to be talked about is chronic fatigue. This condition may be defined as a constant state of weariness. The affected person can feel his energy diminishing over time and so does his mental capacity. Do not misunderstand fatigue with sleepiness, but know that it could be one of its symptoms. Fatigue, rather than being a condition in itself, is a symptom which may be indicative of something that is seriously amiss in the body.

What Causes Fatigue and What are its Signs?

Fatigue may occur in the form of lack of energy, tiredness, lethargic feeling and weakness. It may also be felt in the form of palpitations, dizziness and vertigo. Some people experience shortness of breath and the feeling of passing out as the symptoms that may accompany fatigue.

There may be several identifiable causes of fatigue in women or men. However, the causes may differ from person to person. This is the reason patients must work closely with their doctor for accurate diagnosis. Among the common causes are, regular use of caffeine, insomnia, sedentary lifestyle, excessive drinking and unhealthy eating habits. Fatigue may also be related to the use of certain OTC or prescribed medications to treat conditions like cold, cough, allergies, blood pressure, etc. It is also common for people who are involved in excessive physical activity to experience fatigue.

Now, there could be some underlying psychological elements which might be responsible for extreme fatigue. Common ones to be listed are anxiety, depression, a sense of prolonging grief and stress.

In most cases, unattended or untreated medical conditions could be the offenders. Some of them include:
  • Anemia
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Emphysema
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
Apart from the above causes, pregnancy is known to be one of the major causes of fatigue in women. Leaving this, chronic kidney failure, surgery, restless legs syndrome and sleep apnea are associated with fatigue and dizziness causes in women and men.

So these were some known and identified causes of mild and extreme fatigue in women and men. Now for the treatment part. Due to obvious reasons, the causes are identified in an individual and treated accordingly. For instance, if anemia has been causing the fatigue, the patient would be treated with iron supplements. Fatigue, as I mentioned, is a normal response of the body to exertion. It should be considered normal if it occurs due to reasons such as heavy work or stress. However, if you are troubled with it with no apparent reason, then you have all reasons to worry about. And if this is the case, showing yourself to the doctor would only help you to keep things from getting worse ahead.
