Meal Plannning is a little used, but very powerful technique to help speed weight loss
A little planning makes the unwanted weight go a long way!
The benefits of planning
It is easier to control your calorie intake when you know in advance what you will be eating, rather than adding the calories up at the end of the day.
You can be sure that you are getting the right nutrient balance, rather then coming to the end of the week and realising that you have over or under eaten something important.
As you find out what works and what doesnt you can adjust your plans to include more of what works and less of what doesnt!
You are much less likely to fall off your diet if you know what you will be eating and have the ingredients to hand, rather then feeling hungry and being restricted to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as that is all you have in.
You can plan to go off the diet for a day if for example you have a party to go to then with a plan you can easily cut down for a few days before and after and allow yourself to just enjoy your event and not worry about dieting whilst you tuck into a guilt free slice of cake.
How To Plan
Look at how often you eat during the day do you want to plan in a daily treat, and some snacks? If so you can block out those calories immediately and make the rest work around these plans.
Do you have any specific guidelines to include for example eating red meat no more then once a week or eating at least four portions of fish per week. You can also plan where to include at least five portions of fruit and vegetables.
Once you have built your meal plan you can turn it into a shopping list. Having a shopping list means that you will be sure to get all the foods you need for your healthy plan, and you will be less likely to include foods that wont help your diet. Another important tip for grocery shopping is to never shop when you are hungry, this just leads to buying too much and getting a few extra items just in case.
Remember to portion out and prepare as much as possible in advance. Having everything ready can make the difference between going to work or school with a ready prepared healthy lunch, and going out empty handed and having to choose an unhealthy alternative.
Finally meal planning in conjunction with a food diary helps you to stick to your plan or alter it where necessary when you find days that it is difficult to stick to.
