Fast-growing Grass
Envious of your neighbor's lush green lawn? You don't need to be, plant your garden with fast-growing grass seeds. Some of these seeds start showing results in less than 15 days.

Perennial Ryegrass
The perennial ryegrass variety are deep green in color and are fine textured. They are fast growing and under ideal climatic conditions can grow within a week or two. As it germinates quickly, this variety is excellent for covering slopes. It grows best in cool climates, on the other hand, this variety does not grow well in drought or extreme cold climatic conditions.
Annual Ryegrass
Annual ryegrass falls in the category of ryegrass, and this variety lasts for only a year. It is mainly used for temporary planting and can be used as temporary pastures. Due to its extensive root system, they are used as a preventive measure against soil erosion.
Kentucky Bluegrass
Depending on the climatic conditions, Kentucky bluegrass takes about 10 to 22 days to grow. They are blue green in color and is a popular variety of grass used in areas which have cool climate. The most favorable temperature for the growth of Kentucky bluegrass is 60 °F. If the temperature rises to more than 70 °F, the growth declines and completely stops, if the temperature rises to more than 80 °F.
Creeping Red Fescue
Creeping Red Fescue is mostly, planted for turf grass and is popularly grown in the Northern regions parts of the USA. It grows well in cool climatic conditions and can't tolerate extreme cold. It grows best in infertile soil, but it should be well drained. However, it can't endure highly fertile or wet soil. This variety of grass can start growing within 7 days during the Spring or may take up to 21 days.
Tall Fescue
Tall fescue grows well in shady areas and are mostly dense and clumping. The main advantage of this type of grass is that they do not require maintenance. Due its dense root system, it can tolerate drought and stays green throughout the year. Some varieties of tall fescue are insect and disease resistant. It takes about two weeks for this variety of grass to grow completely.
Meadow Fescue
The meadow fescue grass variety is similar to Tall Fescue, the only difference being the leaf structure, with this variety having slender and long leaves. It's a perennial grass type which grows in bunches and can grow well in cool climates.
Red Top
As the name suggests, the red top grass variety produces red seeds during summer. They grow well in moist places like water gardens. They grow best in cooler regions of the country and can grow in both acidic and infertile soils. This variety of grass thrives where the other varieties of grass does not grow. This grass type is effective for hay and pastures and is highly nutritious for livestock. They grow within a week or two in ideal climatic conditions especially, during the Spring.
Bermuda Grass
Bermuda grass is the most common variety of fast-growing grass and can be used in warm as well as cooler climatic conditions. They are found extensively in lawns, coastal areas, pastures, sports fields and golf courses. They grow best in warm climate, but today, there are some hybrid varieties available which can grow best in cooler climatic conditions as well. Being highly versatile, Bermuda grass is drought-resistant and can grow within 21 days.
Some of the other common varieties of fast-growing grass are Zoysia, Centipede, Carpetgrass and Bahia Grass and some of these varieties can also grow in sandy soil. So go ahead and plant any one of these varieties and see your lawn become lush green.
