Fashion Trends of Lovers of Christ
A viewpoint of why Christians perhaps do not rank high on the fashion radar.
Who Says Christians Don't Have Style? Christians (followers of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ) may not rank high on the scale as a group known for its fashion flair. But, the reason for this may lie in the fact that a Christian's sense of style is measured on a sort of different level. In fact, here are the top 3 style trends of holy and devout lovers of Christ!
1) Truth is Our Belt
Today we live in an interesting world in that the word 'truth' seems to be a term of relativity. (i.e. my truth is not your truth and vice-versa). The truth is (pun intended) there is only ONE truth. Truth's name is JESUS. Our Savior said it Himself. His exact words were, "I am the WAY, and THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6, NIV) If JESUS is the truth (and He is) and believers wear 'the truth' as a belt, a certain standard of morality is upheld in much the same way one's literal belt holds up their pants. The belt allows the clothing to stay in 'order' if you will. Without a belt in tow the pants would have a propensity to fall down and things that are meant to remain discreet in the public eye is left for all to see. Most folks would have a problem with this, and in fact do! How many of us long for the days when NOT showing your underwear through your clothing was STYLISH? In much the same way, when we neglect our belt of TRUTH, things around us fall apart. Needless to say, this is an IMPORTANT accessory to say the least!
2) Righteousness is Our Breastplate
Righteousness is a word that has become 'dirty'. It simply means meeting a standard of what is 'right' and 'just'. To wear it as a breastplate is actually daring for even the boldest of fashionistas. While we (as a people) can agree that a matter is NOT right or UNJUST, it is another thing altogether to say it out loud. Doing so can marks an individual as a target of ridicule and who wants to wear that? The thing is we should sport righteousness whenever we can---not self-righteousness mind you, but righteousness...because at the end of the day, no one can deny the beauty of what's right and what's wrong!
3) Our Feet are Fitted with Readiness
While wearing a toe ring from the Faith Rings website (in the near future) is not unfashionable. It is better to have feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Not to mention that the feet of those who bring the "Good News" are beautiful! Having a sense of preparedness has never been a fashion blunder. In fact, it ranks high on any list. The mark of preparation shows diligence, discipline, and a desire to disciple those who don't know The TRUTH. Yes, there's that word again. Everyone knows that it's the complete ensemble that creates a look. It's the same for stylish Christians. Fit your feet for readiness and you're sure to beat out any imposter.
So, no matter the season truth, righteousness, and preparedness are ALWAYS the fashion trend.
