Volleyball is widely played across the world. It is indeed a sport which gives entertainment and fitness. There have been some legendary personalities to have played this game. Through their share talent and agility, they set a benchmark for others to follow. This article is a salute to these players who made this beautiful game much more beautiful!

Karch Kiraly

Karch is widely regarded as the greatest of volleyball players. Kiraly was good at both indoor and beach volleyball. He was born on November 3, 1960 in Jackson, Michigan, US. Karch is the only volleyball player to win three gold medals in Olympics. Kiraly is the only volleyball player to win Olympic medals in both indoor and beach volleyball. He has won 148 tournaments more than any other player. Kiraly is remembered for his trademark pink cap worn by him during the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) tour. Karch has made more money (more than 3 million dollars) than any other player. He has the distinction of being the oldest player to win a Pro Beach tournament. He retired from the AVP tour in 2007.

Logan Tom

Logan has helped USA to victory in many tournaments. She was born in Napa, California, USA. Tom is six feet and one inch tall and known for her power and grace. At 19 Logan was the youngest player on the Olympic Team in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Logan was the top scorer for the United States national women's volleyball team, which won a silver medal at the 2002 World Championships in Germany. Tom was the most valuable player of the 2004 World Grand Prix. She is currently going to appear in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Steve Timmons

Steve was born on November 29, 1958 in Newport Beach, California. He is 6 feet 5 inches in height. Timmons was famous for wearing a wild red flat top. He represented the USA in three consecutive summer Olympics. Steve won two gold medals and one silver medal at the Olympics. He is regarded as a pioneer of back row hitting.

Paula Weishoff

Paula was born on May 1, 1962 in Los Angeles, California. She is six feet one inches in height. Wieshoff won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the 1980 U.S. Junior Olympics. She made US national team debut in 1981. She has the distinction of being a three-time Olympian. She also represented USA and won one silver and one bronze medal. In 1998, Paula was inducted into the U.S. Volleyball Hall of Fame. She is only of four US volleyball players to represent the nation in three different Summer Olympic games. In 1992, Wieshoff was named MVP of the Olympic Games.

Kerri Walsh

Kerri is a professional beach volleyball player. She was born on August 15, 1978 in San Jose, California. Walsh is six feet two inches tall and weighs 70 kg. Her father Tim played minor league baseball in the Oakland A's organization. Her mother played volleyball at Santa Clara. Kerri debuted in 2001. Kerri and Misty May Treanor had a record of 38-0 during their first year on the AVP Tour, winning every domestic tournament in which they competed. She won the MVP in the 2003 and 2004 AVP tour. Walsh won the gold medal in beach volleyball in the 2004 Olympics.

Misty May Treanor

Misty is an American professional beach volleyball player. She was born on July 30, 1977 in USA. Her father was a member of the national volleyball team. Misty May-Treanor and partner Kerri Walsh won the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. Misty May was the AVP Most Valuable Player in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
