Famous Spanish Football Players
Cesc Fabregas
The youngest kid on the Spanish football block who has catapulted to fame is 23 year old Francesc 'Cesc' Fabregas. He plays in the position of the central midfielder and plays for English Premier League team Aresenal in addition to playing for the Spanish National team. He started his international career in 2003 FIFA under-17 world championship. His asset is his passing range and the way he can control the offensive flow of the game play of his team. He is believed to have vision, creativity and an understanding and maturity of the game beyond his age.
Fernando Torres
If there was another Fernando after Morientes who continued the job for the Spanish team, it is Fernando Torres. A prolific scorer for Liverpool Football Cup, this player is a born goal scorer. Quick, impressive in the air and strong, he has a fantastic technique and has a cool and a relaxed composure. All in all he has all it takes to be touted as a world-class striker.
Raul
Raul Gonzalez Blanco, called simply as Raul, is great looks and great soccer personified. Playing as a striker, he has good ball skills and can shoot very well. Coupled with that he has the ability to hold possession or play the ball off. This 33 year old striker though needs help from the midfield. He played for Spain between 1996 and 2006. He also played Real Madrid alongside the likes of David Beckham, Spanish teammate Iker Casillas and Zinedine Zidane. He is undoubtedly one of the best Spanish soccer players.
Fernando Morientes
Although not in the Spanish national team now, this 34 year old player has carved his own niche in international soccer. At 6 feet 1 inch, the tall soccer player is known for his aerial goal scoring abilities. He was a part of Spanish squad for the 1998 FIFA World Cup and 2002 world cup and has been a part of Spain's Euro Cup team as well. After playing for Monaco, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Valencia, this player as of February 2010 is a part of Olympique de Marseille's attacking flank.
David Villa
An apt successor for Raul, David Villa along with Torres is one of the most famous Spanish soccer player. He made his international debut in 2005 and since then has never looked back. Playing as a striker he is one of the best players for Valencia. He is another young talent to be chosen in the Spanish team for FIFA 2010 championship.
Xabi Alonso
He made his mark under Steven Gerrard's Liverpool and is one of the best midfielders for Spain. He also doubles up as a deep lying play maker because of his game reading and long distance passing abilities. Due to all this he is considered to be one of the top Spanish soccer players on world soccer scene now.
Jose Antonio Reyes
Although not in the news now, this 26 year old Spanish player made his mark playing for English football club Arsenal. Then began his stint playing for the most illustrious clubs in the world soccer. Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Seville are a few of those clubs. He got his first Spanish cap in September 2003. He is mainly a winger but also doubles up as a forward.
Iker Casillas
Another famous Spaniard is the charismatic goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Although he would have been subject to a lot of flak after Spain's defeat from Switzerland, he still is one of the best in the world with Gianluigi Buffon of Italy. The captain of Spanish national team, he also plays for Real Madrid. It was under Casillas's captaincy that Spain became the European Champions.
