The Louvre

The Louvre (loov - ruh), as I have already mentioned above, is one of the largest palaces in the world and earlier, it was the home of the many French kings and queens. It was built in the 13th century by Phillip II Augustus, and that time, it was used as a fort in order to defend Seine from the Normans and the English. This fort was changed into a museum, Musee du Louvre, during the late 18th century. It contained some of the former royal sculptures and paintings of the royal family. More were added to this collection when the loots by the famous French Emperor, Napoleon, were also added. Today, this museum contains some famous antiquities from all ancient Egypt, the Middle Ages, the Greek and the Roman period, and even things from the Modern times.
