Faith Hill Freaks Out
Faith Hill has caused some drama with her reaction to Carrie Underwood winning Female Vocalist of the Year.
By: Shannon Gossage
This year’s contestants for the Best Female Vocalist of the Year for the 2006 Country Music Awards included Underwood, Hill, Sara Evans, Gretchen Wilson and Martina McBride. The cameras were on each of the contestants as the winner was read. It seemed as if Hill was pretty sure that she was going to win and after Carrie Underwood’s name was called Hill’s reaction was slow. First it looked as if she were going to graciously accept her award and then as reality set in she threw her arms up and shouted, "What?!" She then quickly exited from the camera view.
Now Hill, 39, is backtracking and released the following statement, "The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me. For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving Female Vocalist of the Year." Wonder how Underwood, 23, feels after undoubtedly seeing the footage?
Hill’s manager Gary Borman said, "I’ve worked with Faith for many years now and the idea that she would ever insult or undermine another artist, let alone another human being’s success is absolutely preposterous. Those who know her know that she’s incapable of such actions. She was being playful while the nominations were being read and playful after." Um…playful is not the word that comes to mind after seeing the footage. But what else is Hill going to say? Underwood had told reporters that she didn’t anticipate a win and looked genuinely shocked when her name was announced.
