Faith and Hope Chapter 13
Xara - maybe... maybe not ; Maya - I sent you a song idk if you got it; Ava - I hate when I have to revise my comment cause they won't take it the way I had it. To my readers, this is the final chapter before Elle's story, don't worry like I've mentioned a couple times, everything not completely clear is tied up in Elle's story.
Hope's POV:
The funeral was on August 13. My grandmother came down from the new house up in Cambridge to attend it. After the funeral, Elle and I were going back up with her.
Over the past few weeks, Adam and I had gotten even closer. For some reason, he had seemed more and more excited. I wondered what he was planning, but I was content to just be with him. He, Elle, and my grandmother were the only reasons to function after my mother's death.
The day of the funeral, it was raining. I wore a black sweater and black skinny jeans. I wore black flats. I left my hair down. I helped Elle into a black dress, with black Mary-janes.
Adam and his uncle took a car, while my grandmother, Elle, and I took a different car. When we got there, Adam stood next to me. My grandmother held Elle.
When it was my turn to say a few words, I took a deep breath.
"Before this summer, if you asked me to talk about my mom, I'd be bitter. When I came here, I was angry at her for leaving me and my sister 4 years ago. But, after she and I talked, I realized that she had her own reasons. So I opened my heart and my eyes and I learned a lot. She taught me how short life could be, and how sometimes the best intentions aren't always the best. My mother was a great person, and I'm glad that I've been able to have her be a part of my life." I said, tears falling down my cheeks.
The rain mingled with the tears as I laid flowers down on my mother's grave, feeling a sense of deja vu to when I laid flowers on my sister's grave. I went back to my place next to Adam. He held my hand as Jack began to say his eulogy.

Adam's POV:
By the end of the funeral, everyone was crying, some loudly, others quietly. I held Hope's hand the whole time, except when she had gone to lay flowers on Jill's grave. I still couldn't believe that she was gone. She had been a fun person to be around, and I knew that she had meant the world to my uncle.
At the end, we went back to the house to get Hope's and Elle's stuff. I went up to help Hope, while her grandmother waited downstairs with Elle. My uncle had gone to his room.
When we got up to her room, she turned towards me. She seemed like she had a question.
"Adam, we're going off to college. Lately you've been acting a little strange. Are you okay? I've been so busy with myself that I haven't really been there for you." She said.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out the velvet box that was holding the ring. I got down on one knee and looked up at her.
"Hope, I know that the last few weeks have really hard for you. But I need you to know that I'll always be here. I love you, always have and always will. Will you marry me?" I asked, my heart pounding.

Hope's POV:
Adam just proposed to me. Adam just proposed to me. Adam just proposed to me. My mind and heart were racing.
I pulled him up. "Adam, yes! Yes, I will marry you! I love you so much." I answered, kissing him. He picked me up and swung me around. I laughed.
He slid the ring onto my finger. We smiled at each other.
The ring was perfect for me. It was one beautiful diamond in the center of a pure silver band. There was something engraved on the inside, and I mentally reminded myself to read it later.
We went back downstairs with all Elle's and my stuff. Adam helped us load the car. When my grandmother was buckling Elle in, Adam hugged me.
"I'll be at Boston University next week. I'll call you when I get there." Adam said.
"I'll come visit you when you get there." I told him, kissing him one last time before getting in the car.
As we drove away, he watched from the driveway until we were out of sight.

Adam's POV:
The next week, my uncle threw himself into his work. I drove up to Boston University and got settled in. I called Hope, and she said that she was on her way.
Someone knocked. "Come in." I called, lying on the bed.
It was Annie, Chef Joe's sous chef. She was a nice girl, and a good friend. She was crying.
"What are you doing here? What's wrong?" I asked, worried.
"Mr. Palmer fired all the help. I have no job now, and no way to pay for college. I knew that you were up here, and I just needed a friend to talk to." She sobbed.
Annie went to Penn State. She was a junior this year. Her job for my uncle was the only way she could afford her college education.
I gave her a box of tissues, and tried to comfort her. I told her that I'd try speaking to him about it. She sat on my bed, her tears subsiding.
"I have no idea where I'm even going to live. I'll have to move back in with my mom." She said.
"Hey, it's going to be okay." I said, giving her a gentle hug.
She turned towards me, coming awkwardly close. I pulled away.
"Thanks Adam. You're the best. And have you been working out lately? I'm feeling some muscle." She asked, feeling my arm. I was uncomfortable, and tried to gain some distance. Unfortunately, I backed against the wall.
Annie leaned in and kissed me. I didn't respond, and was disgusted by the way her tongue moved around my lips.
The door opened. Hope came in.
"The door was - " She said, seeing Annie on top of me. I saw tears come to her eyes. She seemed to be tearing herself apart, and my heart broke. I pushed Annie off me.
Annie turned around and saw Hope. "What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Leaving." Hope answered. Looking at me, "Have a nice life, Adam. Sorry I was stupid enough to do that to myself." She chucked something at me.
She slammed the door behind her. I turned to Annie.
"Get out." I demanded.
"Oh come on, Adam, you know you want me." She said, seductively.
"GET OUT! Go!" I yelled. She grabbed her bag and stormed out.
I flopped back down on my bed. My leg touched something cold. I picked it up. It was the ring. That mus have been what Hope had chucked at me. I began to cry, at the loss of the one I loved.

Hope's POV:
After I left, I started sobbing. He knew. He knew everything, and he hurt me. He broke his promise.
I drove back home, and when I got there, I went up to my room and cried. My grandma came in with soup, and stayed with me, just like she used to do when I had just gotten out of the hospital.
A week later, school started. I vowed never to do anything that could cause me that much pain again. I stayed away from socializing, and spent most of my time with Elle and my grandmother.

Note: For those of you who wanted a happy ending, I'm sorry. However, I can promise that if you read my next story (continuation from Elle's POV when she's 17), you'll be happy. Leave comments or vote in the poll if you were extremely disappointed in me.
