Facts About Animal Abuse

Most of us are familiar with the topic of human abuse but do you know that an animal suffers cruelty on a regular basis too. Yes, animal abuse or animal cruelty means harming an innocent animal for various purposes. Remember harming an animal for self defense is not considered as cruelty but inflicting pain on them for your selfish gains is considered as animal abuse and countries are taking preventive measures to make sure it gets stopped. When you think of the term animal abuse, you think of an animal getting beaten by someone. But there is much more to it. A detailed look at these facts about animal abuse and you will get a better idea of what I am talking about.

Did you know that most states don't consider animal beating, hunting and animal testing illegal. Technically all these activities are considered as animal abuse. Activities like leaving your pets out in the rain and tying them inside or outside their houses. Even kicking your pets is considered as animal abuse. Remember you should breed your pets inside your house and never make them sleep outdoors in the cold or rain. Have a fenced yard in your back lawn for their fun time but don't consider that yard as their home.

• Elephants who provide you entertainment in circus shows are tied with chains for more than 14 hours a day. These animals live this prisoner lifestyle since they are born.
• Dog fighting and cock fighting are illegal in all 50 states of the United States. Dogs who lose or can't fight are often abandoned, tortured, set on fire, or beaten to death.
• One of the most strangest facts about animal abuse is that in 20% of animal abuse cases domestic violence is involved.
• More than 15 million warm blooded animals are used in research every year.
• Cows are milked extensively to fulfill the desires of the human population. Because of this their calves can't get enough milk for their proper nutrition and growth.
• Glue traps cause terror and agony in animals which causes them to suffer for many months.
• Every year more than 50,000 seals are killed for their skin which is considered as a luxurious fashion item by the rich and famous.
• A weird animal fact is that women who get beaten by their partners often complain that their husbands threatened to kill their pets. Even children who witness domestic violence at a young age have a tendency to take their anger out on their pets.
• Due to the large consumption of horse meat in Europe and Asia, every year thousands of horses are slaughtered.
• To test the effect of perfumes, cleaners and various other cosmetics every year millions of animals are killed, injured or blinded.
• A slaughter house kills more than 2000 animals every hour.
• More than 5 billion tax dollars are invested in animal experiments every year.
• More than 3 million kangaroos are killed every year. Their skin is considered as the prime material for soccer shoes.

You can do much more to help stop this cruelty against animals. Stop consuming animal milk, instead turn to soy. Learn how you can help to stop animal abuse by visiting your nearest animal welfare department. Working with animal shelters and rescue departments is also a great way to save the animal kingdom. Stop using products which are animal tested or animal used, opt for products which are environmental friendly. With your sincere efforts and care towards animals, I am sure that animal abuse will vanish.
