Come winter and all those with problems of dry and rough skin, can be seen making a bee line for the nearest body shop trying to get hold of all the lotions and creams that they can get in order to moisturize their skin. People with dry skin suffer more than those with oily skin as the skin always feels dry and stretched. The skin also starts peeling sometimes and when the skin breaks, the area turns white and rough, making ones face look like an old lady's wrinkled skin. Dry skin also wrinkles fast. Are you one of those unlucky few who are facing this problem and is dreading the winter this year because of all the problems that your skin causes you? Relax! Here are some natural face masks for dry skin which you can easily make at home.

What Causes Dry Skin

Before going into the details of what all are the various homemade facial masks for dry skin, let us first try and understand in brief what dry skin is all about and what are the various problems that a person with dry skin might face. Dry skin usually occurs when the oil glands do not provide enough lubrication to our skin, thus making the skin dehydrated. Exposure to the harsh side of nature can also lead to dry skin. I am sure those of you with dry skin, are aware of what the various problems are; chapping of the skin, wrinkles, itchy skin, stretching of the skin, peeling of the skin, etc.

Recipes to Follow

Take a look around your kitchen and you will find so many things that you can use as home remedies for dry skin. Given below are some recipes which will help you to pass this coming winter without any problem.
  • Here's a honey and avocado mask that is good for your dry skin. A paste of avocado and honey, is excellent for dry skin. Honey, is one of the best moisturizer for dry skin and so is avocado. Mix at least 2 to 3 teaspoon of honey with a ½ smashed avocado and apply it on your face. Leave it on for at least 10 to 15 minutes and then wash it off with cold water.
  • Mash ½ apple and mix it with honey and oatmeal. Apply this on your face and you will never face problems with dry skin again.
  • Paste of olive oil and ½ of avocado (smashed) is also a good mask for rough skin. Apply it on your face and neck and leave it on for 15 minutes or till it dries up completely. Wash it off with warm water.
  • Honey and milk is another thing that you can try out. Mix 3 spoons of each and make a thick sticky paste and then apply this on your face. Leave this for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash off. Remember one thing, after washing your face, do not rub your face vigorously with the towel as that will make your skin more rough and dry. Just pat dry gently.
  • Smash one banana (remember to take off the peel first) and then add at least 2 tablespoons of sweet almond oil and then mix it well. Apply this on your face and leave it to dry. Wash off with warm water.
  • 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 teaspoons of water, mixed together and applied on the dry skin areas, also makes good facial mask at home for dry skin.
  • Face pack of yogurt, honey and banana, mixed together and then applied on your face and neck, is also good for dry skin.
  • Sometimes, due to dry skin, the skin feels too rough to touch. Take a whole smashed cucumber and mix it with at least 2 teaspoons of sugar and apply it on your face. Your skin is sure to feel smooth as silk to touch. One good thing is that you can also apply it on your hands and legs and can even store it in the fridge and use it later.
  • Make a paste of thick milk cream, 1 teaspoon of rosewater and a pinch of turmeric powder and apply it on your face and neck and leave it on for sometime, say 15 minutes and then wash off. It will not only leave your skin feeling moisturized, but it will also give a glow to your face.
  • Mix honey with the yolk of an egg and a few drops of olive oil and make a thick paste and then leave it for sometime. Wash off with warm water.
These homemade face masks will cost you nothing and they are sure to help you bid goodbye to dry and chapped skin, not only this coming winter but any time of the year.
