Eye Skin Care
Do you have dark circles under your eyes, bags under your eyes or wrinkles around your eyes? Learn what possible causes are of those conditions and what you might to do minimize them.
Think about when you meet someone for the first time or see an acquaintance. The first thing you notice about most people are their eyes. What color they are. Are their eyes attractive? Are they making eye contact? And do they have dark circles under their eyes or bags under their eyes or even saggy eye lids or wrinkles around their eyes?
We are an observant population. Whether you want to admit it or not, we think those things. These skin conditions around your eyes are indeed a result of something. You may not be able to totally prevent them but you can certainly slow it down and alleviate. I’ll touch on a few things you can do for these conditions but it is first important to know why they exist.
Dark Circles Under Eyes
Everyone at some point in your life or another will have dark circles under your eyes. Most of the time it is temporary and nothing to be concerned about.
Most think that fatigue is the main cause of these. It can cause dark circles but isn’t the leading reason. Dark circles are the result of widened, dilated and darker veins that become over active when you are congested as with an allergy attack or a cold.
Genetics certainly plays a part. Nutrition and the care you take for your skin takes a part. Skin conditions such as eczema can contribute to the dark circles. Many times these circles will com from result in the A.M. hours after gravity has done its job in swelling the eye lids and causing fluid to collect in your lower eye lids.
Bags Under Eyes
So annoying. It’s the worst to wake up in the morning to look in the mirror and find such things under your eyes. Bags are rarely a sign of a serious medical condition but the result of a temporary cosmetic concern.
All of the above causes of dark circles can also be causes of bags. In addition, certain medications might plague you with bags.
If you find that your swelling encompasses other parts of your body, you should visit your doctor to rule out other possible causes such as kidney or thyroid problems.
Eye Wrinkles
The 3 major causes of eye wrinkles are smoking, too much exposure to the sun and genetics. Wrinkles are a result of thinner skin that is dryer and less elastic. I have a friend who has thick skin. Her hands aren’t very soft especially when you touch her hands. But when you look at her face, she looks incredibly young. Go figure.
There are lots of wrinkle treatments that can be effective. It’s important to continue the treatments as new wrinkles can evolve over time and prevention is recommended.
What can you do?
This is a longer more complex answer. But the following are a few suggestions to start out with. Get enough sleep! Most adults need 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Sleep slightly propped up so that fluids to not accumulate in your eye area. Reduce symptoms of allergies with over the counter RX.
There are many home remedies: cold compresses, cucumber slices, tea bags, night masks, you name it. If you want to know more details, please visit the Mayo Clinic. The information you get there will be medically based and not old wives tales.
