Have you found that as you get older you have started getting under eye bags and sags? When you get older your body and skin will begin to show it such as eye puffiness, which can occur regularly for some women.

So if you suffer from eye puffiness you should keep reading because we will explain what causes your eyes to get puffy and include tips on what you can do to prevent eye puffiness.

You should keep in the mind that eye puffiness is normal among women (and some men). It also may not be caused from not getting enough sleep or having too much sodium. A lot of women get eye puffiness as they age and need to realize that it is a part of the aging process and may not be because of lifestyle and diet.

Eye puffiness is described as puffiness around the eyes and can be below the eyes, the eyelids, or it may be swelling or puffiness around the whole eye.

Now that you know what eye puffiness is; you may ask what causes it? Here are some likely causes.

1. Heredity – like a lot of things to do with the skin such as cellulite, experts believe that eye puffiness can be inherited from your parents.

2. Tobacco and Alcohol – Both substances include toxins which can cause stress, fatigue and make you hormonal that can therefore cause eye puffiness.

3. Aging – When you age, the skin surrounding your eyes may droop naturally which can become sensitive and cause swelling around your eyes.

4. Diet – having too much salt in your diet can cause eye puffiness.

5. Fluid retention – this can happen when you are pregnant or are through menstruation and can cause eye puffiness.

6. Allergies - eye puffiness can occur if your allergies make your eyes water or by rubbing your eyes.

7. Medication – There are certain medications that can cause eye puffiness and bags under your eyes.

So how do I reduce eye puffiness you may ask? Firstly there are the obvious – sleep longer hours and don’t drink as much alcohol.

However, if would like a long term solution for eye puffiness there a few things you could try such as the cucumber remedy. You may find it hard to believe but cucumbers do work in stopping eye puffiness. Cucumbers include anti-inflammatory properties and they are known to physically reduce eye puffiness. So if you are already for cucumbers, this is how it is done:

Refrigerate one cucumber and than cut two think slices and than put the rest in the fridge for next time or you can puree the left over cucumber and use it as a face mask. You than place one slice of cucumber on each eye, make sure you are lying down in a relaxing place and leave the cucumbers on your eyes for about 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes you can take the slices off your face and watch your face in cool water. In another 15 minutes your eye puffiness should start to disappear.

If you are not quite sure about the cucumbers here is another home remedy for eye puffiness; sleeping with your head elevated. Sounds a bit strange? When you sleep with your head elevated it stops the fluids from going into your eye area. You may feel a bit uncomfortable at first but if it stops eye puffiness it is worth a try! Experts say to put two pillows underneath your head, which should give the best opportunity of this method working.

So are you already beginning to feel your eye puffiness disappearing?

Hopefully this article has given some ideas on how to beat eye puffiness. Most people have to deal with some form of eye puffiness at one stage in their lives but that does not mean they should have to live with it. So follow the suggestions above and enjoy watching your eye puffiness disappear.
