Eye Care for Dummies
Proper eye care can go a long way in keeping your eyes healthy, strong, and focused. Follow these eye care tips to keep the eyes in proper condition at all stages in life.
I wrote in another article on eye care that the eyes are the focal point of the body. This couldn't be more true of a statement, in my professional opinion. However, most people don't even consider eye care in their daily health and fitness regimen. It's odd that such an important part of the human body often goes overlooked and improperly cared for. Here are some tips on how you can properly care for your eyes at any stage in life.
First off, give your eyes proper rest and relaxation time. When you don't give your eyes a break, pressure builds up on the optic nerve, creating a change in blood flow from the veins that supply the eye with blood. When you feel fatigued, lie down and close your eyes. Just like your muscles need to relax after working out, your eyes need a break after a long day of work, such as staring at a computer screen.
Quick relaxation breaks throughout the day also help the eyes. Whether at work, at home, or wherever you may be, try to take 3-5 minutes sporadically throughout the day and just shut your eyes. Quick breaks for your eyes are like power naps for your body. They simply provide a quick rest period to store future energy.
Whenever a problem surfaces in your eyes or around the eye area, consult a professional in the field of expertise dealing with your injury. Never try to self-diagnose an eye problem. Remember, your eyes are your focal point of your body. Treat an eye injury different than you would an elbow injury, as they eyes are much harder to treat and repair should you suffer significant damage.
Believe it or not, blinking helps your eyes stay moisturized.
Always stay on course with proper medical examinations of the eyes. Whatever your ophthalmologist recommends for a visiting schedule, stick to it. Don't deviate from the program. Just like you see a dentist for your teeth, you need to see a specialist for your eyes.
Never look directly at the sun. This is an awful experience for your eyes and can actually induce eye wrinkling at a faster pace than normally experienced. Eye wrinkles are the worst kind of facial wrinkles one can develop, and I suggest avoiding them like the plague.
It is also extremely beneficial to wear proper eye wear, such as sunglasses, when you are around the sun or exposed to heavy sunlight. Believe it or not, sunglasses were NOT made for fashion, they actually serve a great purpose and should not be overlooked as a proper eye care accessory .
Lastly, try to consume vitamin A in your diet plan. Fish, eggs, and vegetables are on the short list of foods you can consume that contain vitamin A. Also, vegetables provide a great amount of antioxidants, which of course is great for the skin area around the eyes.
By applying these tips and techniques to your daily life, you will be on your way to exercising proper eye care habits.
