Exercises to Improve Leg Circulation

If you have poor circulation in legs, then one of the ways to improve it is with simple exercises which you can do anywhere. Regular exercise will also promote overall well-being and promote healthy circulation throughout the body...
There could be several reasons for poor circulation in the legs, ranging from varicose veins to wrong posture. If you are suffering from poor circulation in the legs you are no stranger to numbness or cold sensation in the legs. It is essential to understand the human anatomy before you go out and start your exercises. Effective functioning of the body depends on proper blood circulation as the internal organs depend on the blood cells for oxygen supply. Arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart to other organs in the body including the legs, and veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. When there is disruption of supply in the blood in your legs you will experience a cold tingling feeling. Regular exercise is one of the simplest way of improving your blood circulation, not only to your legs but also throughout the entire body.

If you are looking for therapy to improve leg circulation, then one of the things that you could try is elevating your legs. The trick is to elevate your leg above the level of your heart, this will bring gravity in your favor. This is considered as one of the easiest ways to suck the fluids stuck in your legs and get fresh oxygenated blood in the area. Elevate your legs above the heart level at least 2-3 times in a day, and sleep with a pillow under your legs in the night to improve circulation.

Walk on the Heels
This exercise needs a little balancing act but is very effective in improving blood circulation to the legs. Stand straight and lift your toes of the ground so that all your body weight is supported by the heels. Walk around the house or the office to stimulate the legs and improve blood circulation; doing this for a few minutes couple of times a day is good for you.

Walk on the Toes
Similar to walking on the heels, just stand on your tiptoes and walk around the house in a controlled manner. This will not only stretch your toes but the pressure exerted will alleviate your blood circulation problems. You can also stretch your toes by first standing on them and then rolling back on the heels and pointing your toes in the sky.

Foot Rotations
Sit on a chair and extend your right leg in front and draw a circle with your foot in the air, rotate it in a clock wise motion. Repeat the movement with your other leg. Another way to do this is by extending your leg and just rotating your big toe. Once you are done with rotating your toe try to draw circles with your heel.

SeeSaw Exercises
This is one of the simplest exercise that one can do to improve blood circulation in the legs and it can be done anywhere. Sit on a chair and make sure your back is straight, now lift your toes off the ground but keep your heel firmly planted on the floor. Try to get your toes as close to the shin as possible and hold the position. For the second half of the exercise, raise your heel off the ground and dig your toes firmly in to the floor.

Doing cardiovascular exercises like light jogging and using the stationary exercise bike are some of the other exercises that you should inculcate in your regular workout regimen. One more thing that you should do is wear compression hosiery and socks that propagate blood circulation. Giving yourself a foot massage in regular intervals is also effective and enjoyable if you have a loving partner who obliges you.
