Excessive Armpit Sweating
Excessive armpit sweating is the cause of social embarrassment for many people. Although, it is not a serious problem, it can definitely affect the quality of life for those who suffer from it.

Causes
There are several causes of excessive sweating. It is generally observed that people who lead a very active physical life are most prone to excessive perspiration. Besides, excessive intake of caffeine, alcohol and smoking also contribute a great deal to it. These substances act like stimulants in the body, forcing the body to perspire excessively to maintain its state of equilibrium. Leading a stressful life also has an adverse effect on the body which results in excess sweat.
Cures
A person need not have to deal with this problem throughout his life. There are several cures to reduce armpit sweating.
Antiperspirants and Deodorants
Over the counter antiperspirants are the first choice of people who suffer from excessive armpit sweating. These chemicals have aluminum chloride which is effective against excessive sweating in armpits. When the problem is of a serious nature, a prescription strength antiperspirant, containing the more effective aluminum chloride hydrate is recommended. Deodorants, on the other hand can only be used to curb the offensive odors. They won't reduce armpit sweating in any way.
Iontophoresis
It is a treatment that uses electrical stimulation. The affected area is soaked in tap water and mild electric currents are passed. Although, the exact mechanism of this procedure is not known, it definitely blocks the overworking of sweat glands. However, the person has to undergo multiple sessions per week for several months, to cure armpit sweating completely.
Botox
Botox or botulinum toxin injection are an effective way of reducing excessive armpit sweating. The procedure involves injecting the affected areas with botox injections, so as to prevent the nerves in that area from controlling the working of the sweat glands. This treatment is again not for permanent elimination of hyperhidrosis, and needs to be administered twice a year or whenever the effects begins to wear off.
Surgery
An invasive surgical procedure called cervical sympathectomy is advised as a last resort to cure the problem of excessive armpit sweating completely. In this process, a few of the sweat glands in the affected area are removed permanently. Although, this surgery permanently eradicates the problem, botox treatment is a much sought after option.
