Chapter 1: Meeting Briana

17 years later

Briana Wumback leaned lamely against the brick wall of her school. She had her iPhone in her right hand and a notebook in her left hand that was pressed against her thigh. She looked around at all the people that were coming in. Cheerleader. Jock. Nerd. Jock. Hippy. Cheerhoe. They were all the same. And they all had the same actions. They all had that mind set that they were better than everyone around them. As they walked in, they gave Briana that, "What-the-fuck-are-you-staring-at-bitch" look. All she did was ignore them. They hated her and they didn't even know her. The bell rang. Briana flipped her phone way in the air, looked through her notebook for her schedule. Once she found her schedule, she held her hand out and her phone fell into it.

Liam Rockwell observed her from a distance. No one in their right mind--unless they were a circus freak--could do that with a phone. This was the one. This had to be Arthur Wumback's daughter.

Briana sat in class tapping aimlessly on her desk. She looked out of the window and saw the same black jaguar parked outside across the street. She observed it. It had been there for about a week. It didn't seem like it ever moved. It was there when she did her morning run past the school at 5:30, and it was there when she came and left from school. Awkward thing is, right across the school was the Willowsburg Museum and it opened at 8 and closed at 3. So apparently whatever the people in that car were looking for, it had nothing to do with the museum.

"Ms. Wumback." Briana focused all her attention on her teacher Mr. Jones. He was an old man probably in his 60's and he always had it out for her, she thought. "Whats the answer to the problem on the board?"

"14 if you you subtract the 2 that you clearly forgot to do." He looked back at the math problem on the board. He changed the answer and sighed.

"Correct." He couldn't ask her to pay attention if she knew more of math than he did, so he just sighed and kept on.

The bell rang just as the teacher was letting everyone know about their homework. Briana was the first one out. Hands behind her head and eyes fluttering, she strode down the stairs into the main hallway. She approached her locker and stopped when her eyes flickered in the direction of the schools doors. Someone had just walked through.

She turned and looked at the three gentlemen in black and the leading man of them all was staring at her. They turned to go into the principal's office just as the door had been opened.

"Hey hey." Briana looked up, completely shocked out of her mode. She looked right into the eye of a close friend, Lucas Glasen.

Lucas had been Briana's best friend since they were in the nursery together. Their moms had had them on the same day and thats when her mom and his mom met. Briana had been crying extremely loudly in the hospital and then it made Lucas cry also. They were just connected more than words could tell. After that, their moms started to spend more and more time to gether than their sisters had. Briana never liked Lucas growing up cause he and his friends would do things to harm her, but then they grew on each other. He with his brown hair, her with her black; he with his grey eyes, and her with her blue ones. They just rode well together.

He noticed her expression. "Whats gotten you all in a rut?"

"Something important." She grabbed his wrist. "Wanna break a little rules?"

A mountain of pearly whites spread from his lips. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

The warning bell for them all had rang just as Briana and Lucas walked into the front office. The secretary was sitting there going through some files.

"Mrs. Jones!" Briana's little squeal rang through the entire office. "The math teacher in the teacher's lounge said that the microwave was on fire!"

Mrs. Jones got up out of her rolley chair within seconds. She ran out of her little cubicle and out the door, but not before patting Briana on the back and thanking her for coming to tell.

"You could pass for an actress one day," Lucas said smiling. Briana rolled her eyes.

They leaned against the principal's door and they could hear them talking like they were right infront of their face.

"Well she is one of our top students here," they could hear the principal saying. "I wouldn't want to give her up for the world."

"Well sir, we aren't discussing this with you, we're just telling you." It had to have been one of the jacket and tie men that Briana had seen earlier.

"You can't just bombard in my school and tell me that you're taking her. What have her parents said?"

"If you didn't know, she doesnt live with just her parents."

"Well, I'm aware of that. Its in the school directory. It doesn't matter. Did you notify them?"

"Well, we're notifying you first, then her parents. If they were to find out, then they'd be going for a run today."

"Are they in illegal trouble or something?" Briana listened harder to what the other men in ties would say.

"Something like that." She leaned back down and looked over at Lucas. He motioned for them to stand up.

Briana and Lucas stood up and walked from the door. She leaned back against the wall and gulped. Her face went white and her teeth chattered. At that same moment, Mrs. Jones walked back in. "Thank you for notifying me about the math teacher's bagel being on fire." She scolded the two and told them to leave.

"Why are you looking like that?" Briana looked into his blue eyes.

"I don't know. Those guys are serious about taking whomever it was that they were talking about."

They opened the door for them to go outside towards the gym. The door closed with a thwack leaving them outside in the cold. Briana gathered her arms around herself and walked alongside Lucas. He placed his hands in his jacket pocket and then looked over at Briana.

He observed Briana. Everything about her amazed him. She could do thing that othe girls would never think about doing, and challenge people until they gave up. She was an amazing creature. Creature as in something outta this world.

"You alright?" he asked slightly bumping into her.

"What do you mean?" she asked shrugging. "Of course I'm fine."

"Well..." As they approached the gym door, they both stopped. "When you heard that they were about to take her without her family's consent, you nearly blew up. Like they were talking about taking you."

She looked down and then back at him. "Its nothing. I just felt bad. You know how I get." He nodded as she opened the gym door. He knew that she only tensed up about something if it pertained to her or her family.
------------------------------------

The council was gathered together for a meeting for the fifth time this month. They had all got their hopes up because they were finally figuring out about the Wumback girl that was born without permission. They all sat around the table staring aimlessly at one another.

The council of 4 were none to be messed with. They are very scary beings with power so unreal that it might, nonetheless, shock you. There was always five in existance. They had been around since the beginning of everything. Immortality was a hell of a thing. They could never be killed in the hands of a human and probably not in the hands of a supernatural being either. They had expierenced any and everything and they weren't cared of the things to come.

There was Julian Rockwell. He was the recorder. He had written down everything that happend centuries ago that led them to their point.

Danica Monarty. She was most likeley called the bitch of the clan. She was the only girl in the council, and she held her position rightfully. She always put ANYONE in their place and she wasn't scared.

Adam Nguyen was the "leader" if thats what you want to call it. He runs the council; anything that he says is done no matter what it is.

Then there was Michael Dalvan. He was a very scary man, whether you wanted to believe that or not. Michael was usually set to be the leader of the council, but everyone confused him for the bad guy when he usually just did the right thing wrong. But Michael can do one thing which is kill gratefully. So in his presence, by all means you better start to run.
