Ex-Baseball Star Roberto Alomar Diagnosed with AIDS, Being Sued

Roberto Alomar was diagnosed with AIDS in 2006, and is now being sued for $15 million by an ex-girlfriend for "emotional distress."
It reads like something out of a soap opera…or a horror story. Former Major League Baseball star Roberto Alomar is being sued by his ex-girlfriend in a suit that alleges that he had unprotected sex with her while he had AIDS. The suit, brought against Alomar by ex Illya Dall, of Queens, NY, was filed in Brooklyn Federal court and seeks damages of $15 million. Alomar began dating Dall in 2002, a few years before retiring from baseball in 2005. The couple apparently began engaging in unprotected sex shortly after their relationship began and in 2006 Alomar was diagnosed with HIV. The doctor who made the diagnosis later informed him that he had AIDS.

Dall, who tested negative for HIV, is claiming emotional distress and also noted that her children were exposed to the HIV virus by virtue of her relationship with Alomar. Oddly, her suit does not claim that he knew he had AIDS when they were engaging in unprotected sex, but it does indicate that his procrastination in getting tested was unacceptable. Apparently, Dall began to notice that Alomar began to get cold sores frequently sometime in 2004, and he was later diagnosed with a blood disorder that is common to patients with AIDS.

Dall also notes that Alomar told her in 2005 that he had once been raped by two Mexican men after playing a baseball came in New Mexico. When she asked him to get tested, the suite alleges, he constantly put off the test and at one point refused to take it.
