Everyday Use

Well, my English teacher required us to write another page to the short story 'Everyday Use,' like what would happen next. Although the story took place from another person's point of view, I flipped it around and tried something else. Enjoy. Continuation...
Sitting in silence the alleged husband of Wangero, drove home slowly, letting his beloved wife ramble on and on about her emotions. It was possible that any man in his position would have yelled at the women and told her to get over it, but not Hamaki-a-barber, he was far too caring; not to mention Wanergo being more than a handful if provoked. After their visit with one's said wife's family, the couple left displeased and everything but content, or at least Wangero did. Hamaki-a-barber on the other hand could personally care-less whether they left with or without the family quilts, they weren't his or Wangero's to rightfully take in the first place. But of course, this was not how his lover saw the situation, she saw that she had every right to take whatever she pleases. Honestly, he blamed himself for her selfish behavior, considering it was he that spoiled her ever so frequently.

It wasn't exactly everyday that Wanergo acted so selfish, but it was almost everyday that she rant on and on about her family. But for once, it was actually relevant to the subject or previous events. Pulling into another street, Hamaki-a-barber glanced over at the woman who had finished making a remark and was now waiting for a response, he cracked a smile and shrugged in the most casual way, "Don't you think you're over reacting, just a bit?" Surely it wasn't smart of him to call her out on these things, but she had asked for an honest opinion on the topic.

"How dare you take her side! Those quilts belong to me, they deserve to be shown off. Not used for blankets or who knows what." Wangero finished with a disgusted snort and rolled her eyes.

"I wasn't agreeing with her, and I'm not taking anyone's side.," He responded with a sigh, "I just think that may be you shouldn't get so worked up. We can go buy you some quilts, or maybe you can make your own."

"That's not the point," She let out a frustrated grunt and turned her back to him, staring straight out the window as all the trees and houses passed by, "I'm done with this conversation."

Hamaki-a-barber knew better than to continue on with the subject, so he simply went back to his driving, the calm look he had to begin with plastered on his face. Sometimes he wondered what life would be like without the woman, but he never got so much as a glimpse of happiness without her in his life. Wangero was his ball and chain, in fact, she was securely wrapped around his life, and it didn't look like there was any chance of him ever finding the key, and in all truth; that's exactly how he wanted things to be. Just the two of them. It was a pleasant thought, knowing he had one of the most dashing and charming women that ever lived. After all, what man wouldn't kill to have a woman with looks like hers? Truth be told, if any man ever spent more than a few days with her, they'd of gone insane. Partially from her nagging, but more of it was her need for attention, expensive things, and just plain her in total. But not him, he was able to withstand her unattractive and unappealing personality, as opposed to simply giving up on her completely.

Bringing the car to a stop, he looked over at his wife and gave a warm affectionate smile, tenderly entwining his fingers with hers, "I love you, Wangero."

"And I love you, Hamaki-a-barber." She nodded curtly and gazed at him for a moment, before pulling her attention back to the now still streets of her old neighborhood.

Maybe one day Hamaki-a-barber and Wangero could stop pretending and just tell each other the truth; yes, maybe one day. But for today and many more days to come, the two would simply live out the rest of their lives with forced happiness and unauthentic love. Surely they must be mad to even stay together, knowing the pairing wasn't right and all, but as previously stated; What man wouldn't kill to have a woman with looks like hers?
