Evaligne - Chapter 26

Maybe the last chapter.
I sat on the couch listening to the feral sounds of two inhuman people fighting to the death. If only I was of their species. But no. I am a petty human who can't seem to co-exist alongside them without causing trouble. My life has been a long, torturous journey that I just want to get easier.

Where is Damien? Or Rain? Or even Cedrica? Why aren't they here? They are always here for the small things but when it reaches a climax like this they are nowhere to be seen.

This may cost them a brother, a father, maybe both. I sat there for agonizing minutes that turned into an hour. There was a loud roar of pain and fury then everything went silent.

Thinking the worst, but hoping for the best, I cautiously made my way up the stairs and to the bedroom.

New blood adorned the walls and the flickering of flames highlighted the walls.
I did a complete 360 and came to a stop. Antonio, bloody and battered but in one piece stood over a pile of limbs and a torso that were alight.

His face was taut and with no expression but his eyes showed the actual pain of losing a son no matter hom animalistic and crazy he was.

Antonio turned from the pile that was once his son and looked at me.

"I lost a son, but gained a daughter." He said and walked out the room. He didn't even use his vampiric speed. He was so brought down he trailed out the room with his shoulders sagged, and his movements lethargic.

I felt sorry for him but at least there was no bull's-eye on my life.
I sat on the couch, waiting for Damien and his family.
I lost a piece of my humanity. I gained family. I gained love. I gained... hope for the future.
