Not only do pets bring along a lot of happiness in our homes, they also bring 'fleas'! It is very common for a house with a pet to also have fleas in it. This is because your pets are the ideal carriers for them, and so they can easily enter and infest your house. The fleas hatch their eggs usually in the summers. They form a cocoon wherein they hibernate for almost a year. Did you know that one cocoon produces over a trillion fleas which reach out to your pet and ultimately into your house? Their huge numbers makes it very easy for them to infest various parts of your house, including you mattress, clothes, yard, sofa, beds, and eventually attacking you too!!! They multiply easily and that too in an army of trillions, which is why it is important to get rid of fleas as soon as possible.
Eucalyptus Oil to Get Rid of Fleas
There are many ways to kill fleas and get rid of them. But because it involves the health of you and your pet, you need to be very careful in choosing the method which is best suited for you and your pet. While using methods which involve harmful chemicals and toxic ingredients is a common practice, there are many people who opt for natural ways to get rid of fleas, and eucalyptus oil is one of them! Plain or lemon eucalyptus oil works great when it comes to effective flea control in house. Mentioned below are the ways of how you can do that.
- Among the effective natural remedies for fleas, one of them is to plant eucalyptus plant all around the yard. The reason why eucalyptus is considered to be an effective flea repellent is because they 'hate' the smell of eucalyptus. Planting them in your yard or even at the entrance doors and windows of the house will help keep the fleas away from your house and your pet.
- If you are concerned about your pet dog fleas, then you apply 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil on the collar of your dog. This will make the fleas, flee away from your dog, however make sure that you brush your dog and thoroughly vacuum the carpets and cushions of your house. Did you know that vacuuming helps trap almost 95% of fleas and their eggs? So do it to avoid future trouble.
- Make sure that you don't use eucalyptus oil for fleas on cats. This can prove toxic for them.
- Another benefit is that they can be sprayed all over the house to force the fleas to leave your house. All you need to do is to add 3-4 tablespoons of eucalyptus oil in a spray bottle which is already filled with 3/4 parts of warm water. Shake it well and spray it on your carpets, mattress, cushions and all over your house to force the fleas to vacate your residence. You will have to continue doing it for a few weeks until you finally get rid of them.
- You can also place a few eucalyptus leaves under your carpets and mattresses in order to repel fleas.
- Use 100% eucalyptus oil to completely soak and saturate cotton balls in it. Place the cotton balls in the 'out of reach' cornered dark places of your house like under the bed, sofa set etc as these are the favorite places of fleas to hide. Also make sure that your pets and children are not able to reach these balls as they can prove toxic for them. Change the cotton balls in every 2 weeks.
- You can also place the saturated cotton balls under the mattresses if you don't want fleas to infest your bedroom.
