Ethernet Cable Pinout
Ethernet cable pinout determines the order of the wires placed in a jack. Check out the article below to know more.

What is an Ethernet Cable?
Ethernet cable is basically a high speed data cable. These cables allow for information to be exchanged at lightening fast speed between computers and network devices. The data is passed in the form of electrical pulses amongst devices over network cables. These appear like over-sized phone cables. What is an Ethernet Cable Pinout?
Simply put, the particular way in which the wire placement is done in the RJ45 jack having the cable is decided by the pinout. It is used to connect a device, or rather a computer to a network, primarily. But it can be used for attaching a computer to any other device, like another computer or a cable modem. Cut an ethernet cable in half and you would find eight individual wires, each color coded. There are basically two types of ethernet cable pinouts. There is one pinout which has a straight through cable, referred to as T568A. In this type of a pinout, both the ends of the cable are identical. Crossover ethernet cable pinout, where ends are different are used for operating in a peer to peer fashion sans a switch or hub. Now the jack which holds these wires making one ethernet cable is a RJ45 jack. This jack, which resembles a big phone plug, is an eight position modular connector. With regards to ethernet cable wiring, one needs to pay attention to the connector and see if it is meant for a braided or solid wire.
In case these are for braided or stranded wires, the connector has sharp-pointed contacts piercing the wire. If there are solid wires the connector has fingers cutting through the insulation and making contact with wire by holding it from both the sides. RJ45 jacks are made in such a way that they work only with solid ethernet cables. Jacks mostly come labeled with color coded wiring diagrams for either T568A, T568B or both. While buying the cable, it is important to make sure you pick the correct one.
Color Codes for Ethernet Cable Pinouts
Blue, blue and white striped, green, green and white striped, brown, brown and white striped, orange, and orange and white striped. This color code is variably used in a RJ 45 jack, variably used in a straight cable pinout and crossover ethernet cable pinout. Sometimes 568A is used at one end and 568B at other end in the RJ45 plug. Now these wires are total 8 in number inside the cable and these are twisted in four pairs and a primary solid color is given to each pair along with white.
Sometimes people make their own ethernet cables with the help of their ethernet cable pinouts and ethernet network switches save a lot of money. However, while doing such a thing if the 8 wires are not placed in the RJ 45 jack according to the color code, a connection would not be established.
That's it. Hope it was useful!
