Escape: The Adventures at Cox's Bazar
A group of European school children visit Asia, but while doing some shopping at Cox's Bazar they were - you know lost.
ESCAPE: THE ADVENTURES AT COX'SBAZAR
Good friends stay together. I believed this from my childhood. But my belief was strengthened a lot after that incident. It was the cool winter of January. The blanket of mist covered the country. Our school arranged a family week at Cox'sbazar. It was a long but pleasant ride by a group of buses. Finally we reached the picnic spot. We reserved a small resort beside the sea. I and my three friends, Sam, Harry and Mike were given a room in the second floor. We had a balcony which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful scenery heartily.
However, on the third day of our tour, the four of us along with our two other friends, Emily and Ashley and led by one of our seniors, were sent to a local market about a mile away. We all rode on bicycles. It took about ten minutes to get there. It was a busy marketplace and we began shopping immediately. There were varieties of product at sale, for instance, seashell products, tribal products, Burmese products, paintings, cosmetics and many more. We wished to buy all sorts of items, but eventually, our sources of money were exhausted and we had no way but to return. So we began our return journey.
"Why don't we take a detour?" I offered, surprising everyone.
"Good idea," Sam exclaimed. And soon everyone else too agreed.
"I have a map of the surrounding area," Harry joined in, "Look here, there is a narrow route through this forest. It will lead us to a small lake and we can cross this bridge over here and then it will lead us to our resort." We all observed the map carefully. He was right. So we began our detour through the forest. It was very dark even in the afternoon and the road was covered by the shade of trees.
"It surely is spooky around here," said Emily, "I'd love to get out of this darkness."
"I'm kind'a enjoying it," Ashley replied.
It was a rough road and we bumped around here and there. But we really were enjoying it. Who knew it would happen. We were having such a good time. But suddenly out of nowhere, a gang of tough-looking goons appeared and blocked our way. We were just a few yards from the bridge and were annoyed by their arrival. "Get out of our way," James our senior said in a threatening voice, 'cos he had no idea what was going to happen.
"What are you doing here kids?" the leader of the gang began, "Don't you know it's not safe around here? Why didn't you just stay with your mommy?" he said with kind of a gesture. Then the rest of the gang approached us. And before we could even let a scream out, we were all tied up and blindfolded. We were packed inside a car and carried to a hut made of wood and log. There they tied us to wooden posts and then they removed our blindfolds and mouth covers. Getting a chance for the first time, I screamed out with all my might.
"Scream as much as you will. No one is ever going to hear you in the heart of the forest." the leader spoke.
"You will pay for it, rascals," Sam cried out.
"What you gonna do with those skinny, little arms and limbs of yours?" they laughed out.
"May be he will throw his underwear at us," one of the other goons joked and they laughed out again. But we had nothing to do.
2 days later
I groaned with pain. I had a headache and stomachache and I had eaten nothing since the last two days, except water. I felt like dying. I heard the goons talking about bringing the doctor in the morning. And that means, they are going to sell our body parts for money. I have heard such news before.
The goons were discussing it before they went to lunch ten minutes ago. As far as I had seen in these two days, they return from lunch in about one and a half hour. So I had to something to escape from here in ninety minutes.
Suddenly, something caught my sight. It was shiny and small and was about two yards from me. It was a knife! What luck! The goons must have left it without noticing. My body was tied to a wooden post and my hands tied to each other. I reached the knife with my legs and brought it closer to me. Then I cut the bonds of my hands. It was a hard task to do with both hand tied and I wounded one of my fingers. But finally, I managed to cut the bonds of my hands and body. I was free!
But there was a lot more to do yet. I freed my friends and looked around. The door was locked and it was made of strong wood. The walls too were too hard to be cut by the small knife I had. There was a window, but it was too high and too narrow for us to get through. Well, at last I found a rusty saw in one corner of the hut and at once we set out to work, sawing a part of the hut. It was a long and tiring task but finally we were done.
It was the time for the goons to return. We went out and had to hurry. We followed a trace of a car and ended up near the bridge. Then we heard the sound of a car coming. Harry was about to call out to it' but I stopped him and we all hid behind the bushes.
The car that passed by belonged to the goons. 'When they get to the hut, they find out everything and come after us,' I thought. "Hurry guys," I said to my friends. Then we ran to our bicycles that were scattered around on the ground and began paddling as fast as we could.
Just as we crossed the long bridge, we heard a car coming not too far away. We had to get to civilization, and fast. We began riding by the beach. Soon our resort was in sight, and seeing more people around the goons fled away. We were saved! Whew, that was close!
Everyone back at resort was very worried about us. They had searched all around, but could not find us. Now they were happy to see us again. We set back for Dhaka the next day. After reaching Europe I heard that the goons who kidnapped us were arrested.
Our one month tour of Asia was quite fun. But the most interesting event was our escaping from the kidnappers. It was partly by luck and partly by our team work that we made it safely back to our own dear home.
