Escape from Your Apartment Lease

Discusses ways you can terminate your apartment lease early.
If you are wanting to get out of your apartment lease, you probably want to either pay nothing, or as little as possible. Of course most lease contracts will have the rules spelled out for you in the event you would like to terminate your lease. From our experience, most renters will have to pay two months free upfront in order to break their lease without have any negative reporting made to the credit bureaus. Sometimes the renter will be responsible for the rent until the leasing office is able re-lease your apartment home.

But certain situations do exist in which you are able to break your lease without having to pay a fee. And normally if one of these situations does occur, you will not be a happy camper. Also people who are subjected to these conditions have a great excuse to leave. We have outlined a few of the conditions that you should be aware of in your apartment home.

Is Your Apartment Home Dangerous

If your apartment home presents a danger to yourself or your health you may have a great chance to terminate your lease. Maybe the railing on the stairwell is broken or your apartment home has a mold issue. You will need to include this in writing and send it to your leasing office. Make sure you send it certified which will tell the apartment home you mean business. And don’t try and cause the damage yourself. Any respectable apartment will repair the damages.

Bait and Switch

This reason may be hard for an apartment community to pull off as word of mouth travels fast. Maybe the apartment model you were showed was spotless and contained lots of upgrades? When you moved in, your apartment home was not clean and the granite counters you were promised were absent. This may be a case of a deceptive trade practice. Many states may impose severe penalties against businesses who engage in conduct such as this. Remember that if this does happen, contact your leasing office asap. They will either assign you a new unit or refund your money.

Has Your Vehicle Had Multiple Break-Ins On-Site

We have heard some horror stories regarding some clients having their car broken into many times in the parking lot. Negligence is a term that is used quite a bit. It basically means in this case that your landlord or property management company is careless, lazy, and indifferent. If you get a quality attorney to write a letter and threaten civil litigation against the property, you probably will be able to get out of your lease.
