Unlike the revered temples in India, Khajuraho temples in Madhya Pradesh are best known for its erotic etches. According to survey, the architectural magic in the temple town of Khajuraho date back from 9thor 12th century. Each and every corner, here, talks a lot about the legends that connects the origin of Chandela dynasty.

Khajuraho Temple Architecture

The temples in Khajuraho is a brilliant example of craftsmanship. All the carved images highlights the dance, music and action of the archaic time. Its quite hard to tag some of the sculptures, as they represent the explicit scenes. Sightseers can find nude images of both male and female. A strong art of kissing, cuddling and group sex depicts the passion and eroticism. A theory says that all these images illustrates Kama Sutra, a famous Hindu Text. Another concepts mentions that the art have been used to draw people away from Buddhism and promote Hindu family life style.

Khajuraho temples is also known as India's largest group of medieval temples. Not more then 85 temples were constructed in Nagara(North India) style of architecture and till date only 22 edifices are in good condition. Out of the existing temples, two were built from sandstone. Each temples describes the glorious past of art and dedication towards the deity.

Eastern Group:

The Eastern Groups of temples is dedicated to Jainism. Two historic temples, namely, the Adinath Temple and the Parsvanath Temple is adorned with mind-boggling sculptures. The latter is also known as the world's largest Jain Temple. Other must-visit shrines are Vamana Temple, Javari Temple etc.

Western Group:

The temples in the western group are excellent examples of Chandela style of architecture. Kandhariya Mahadev Temple is the largest of all shrines here. Chaunsath Yogini Temple made of granite is maust-see one. Believers of Sun God can visit Chitragupta temple, while devotees of Lord Brahma can offer prayer before the three-headed image of Lord Brahma in Vishwanath Temple. Other popular temples of the groups are Matangeshwara Temple, Devi Jagdambi Temple, Lakshmana Temple and the Brahma Temple.

Southern Group:

The temples of the Southern groups mainly belong to 12th century. Two eye-catching shrines are the Chaturbhuja Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the Duladeo Temple devoted to Lord Shiva.
