House Majority Leader Eric Cantor will discuss the Republican congressional plan later today. The blueprint for America will place emphasis on domestic items like simplification of the tax code, reforming immigration and labor laws, education, innovation and a host of others. The Republican from Virginia is planning to address a wide variety of issues at the American Enterprise Institute to promote policies that he notes would help the "most vulnerable" and would also greatly assist the middle class.
An excerpt of the speech that made the rounds among the media showed that Cantor has an intense desire to add a more personal touch to Republican politics rather than consistently discussing numbers and the outrageous size of the federal debt. "Our solutions will be based on the conservative principles of self-reliance, faith in the individual, trust in the family, and accountability in government. Our goal: To ensure every American have a fair shot at earning their success and achieving their dreams," the excerpt notes.
Another excerpt from the speech addresses the hot issue of immigration, and Cantor notes therein, "Scientific breakthroughs are the result of and have helped contribute to America's being the world's capital of innovation and opportunity in nearly every field. For this and many other reasons, people across the globe want to become a part of our country. We must never diminish that desire, or worse, become a place that is no longer desirable." Cantor also will note that he plans to balance "respect for the rule of law and respect for those waiting to enter this country legally, with care for the people and families."
