Entertainment Industry Up in Arms Over Kanye West Interruption
Celebrities in the entertainment industry are letting loose with all sorts of vitriol, directing their ire at Kanye West for interrupting Taylor Swift’s award acceptance.
By now, the world is certainly aware of the rude protest made by Kanye West at the Video Music Awards as Taylor Swift was poised to accept her award for Best Female Video. In the wake of that event, however, those in the entertainment industry are reacting angrily to what they saw as West stealing Swift’s moment. Swift herself noted that she didn’t want to "start anything" and that, even though her acceptance of the award was marred, she "had a great night."
Swift detailed the evening thusly: "I was standing onstage, and I was really excited because I had just won an award and then I was really excited because Kanye West was on the stage. And then, um, I wasn’t so excited anymore after that." Others have not been so magnanimous. Pink tweeted, "Kanye West is the biggest piece of sh—on earth. Quote me." Kelly Clarkson attacked West as well, blogging, "Dear Kanye, What happened to you as a child?? Did you not get hugged enough?? Something must have happened to make you this way and I think we’re all just curious as to what would make a grown man go on national television and make a talented artist, let alone a teenager, feel like sh--...I was actually nominated in the same category that Taylor won and I was excited for her, so why can’t you be?"
Beyonce, once she was on the stage for Video of the Year, invited Swift on to the stage and asked her to "come out and have her moment." Swift came out to thank her fans, of course, but by then, and despite West’s apologies, it was too late.
