Engagement Rings - Buying Online

A look into buying engagement rings online. The advantages and reasons to look to the internet for this special purchase.
Engagement Rings - Buying Online
With the increase in online shopping, many people are turning their attention to purchasing more and more expensive items online. Amongst these items are engagement rings. Purchases of engagement rings over the internet have become an ideal way to buy the ring for a number of reasons.

First of all, you can shop for engagement rings at any time of the day or night. Many websites also offer a wealth of details and information concerning the specifications of the rings they are selling. This enables a great deal of research to be done prior to ordering. There are other real advantages to buying online. Many internet retailers operate at much lower profit margins than high street retailers due to the lower overheads they encounter. This saving is then passed on to the customer.
With distance selling regulations implemented and controlled by the Office of Fair Trading, sellers have a responsibility to provide accurate descriptions and the reassurance of a comprehensive returns policy. This is because the customer cannot see the item they are buying until it arrives.

Some internet retailers also offer a very personal service. Emails are one of the most important methods of communication to many people. To be able to just ask a question and receive a prompt reply is important when selling such an expensive piece of jewellery. If you are unsure of how efficient a company is, why not place an enquiry and judge the service for yourself.

These days, many diamonds over 0.40cts that are of a good diamond colour and clarity (usually above G colour and SI2 clarity) are certified in a laboratory. This is especially true of many of the diamonds sold online. This is to provide the consumer with that extra bit of reassurance that the item that they are buying meets the specifications described. This is not always necessary when buying from a trusted source, but a little reassurance is very important when distance selling.

It must also be remembered that just because a diamond is certified does not make it a "great diamond" necessarily. There are a number of factors to consider. A cut grade that is "fair" as apposed to "good" or "very good" will be of a lower standard and will be priced accordingly. Other factors on the certificate such as proportions and symmetry will vary in much the same way. It must be stressed though, that it is only too easy to try to find a diamond that looks great on paper, but it is important to find a diamond that will meet your criteria. Consider the details on the certificate, but do not get too wrapped up in every angle detailed on the certificate. Basically, if you want a perfect diamond, you will need to be prepared to pay a high premium for that diamond.

One of the wonderful things about engagement rings is that you will be able to find the perfect ring by deciding upon the ideal combination of specifications. If you want a princess cut diamond that is white and clean, set into a four claw engagement ring with tapering shoulders, then you will find it.
Anything is possible.

With the variations of ring mounts available, there is usually a style to fit all shapes and combinations of diamond. Because rings are often made up to order you can also specify the exact metal you want. This can be 18ct Yellow Gold, White Gold or even Platinum.

Now, a few words about actually buying online. Remember first of all that engagement rings are not like many other commodities that are mass produced. They are not simply packaged up and shipped straight out from a warehouse. Where they are made up to your own specifications, engagement rings undergo a certain series of stages. First of all the ring mount is made, either by casting it from a pattern, or by hand making it. Then, the mount is prepared and then sent to the Assay Office for Hallmarking. When it returns the stones are set and the ring is only ready after being polished to a very high finish. All of this takes time. If you need to keep in touch regarding your ring, then this is not a problem usually, but allow enough time and you will receive the perfect engagement ring.
