Energy Drink Caffeine Content

Many of us delightfully pour out a cup of coffee every morning and are refreshed by the caffeine within it. Here we will see the amount of caffeine that is present in some energy drinks that we consume and what is deemed to be the safe limit. To know more, read on.
There several substances that affect the human body in quite peculiar manners. Some of the drugs for example, acts on the nervous system, giving the consumer a numbing sensation. Sugars, simple carbohydrates and glucose, for example give people a strong content of situational and sudden energy. All these substances on entering the human body affect the human nervous systems, thereby making an impact on the human brain. This impact may be positive or negative and its duration and intensity will vary. Some common examples of this phenomenon include, coffee, tea, painkillers and the caffeine content in energy drinks. Though all these substances are safe for consumption, it is always necessary to maintain a limit of consumption. 'Too much of anything good is bad', is after all not just a pointless saying.

What is Caffeine?

Caffeine is a Xanthine Alkaloid that can cause mild psychoactive stimulation. It is bitter and has a white crystalline appearance when in a pure form. Though Friedrich Ferdinand Runge, is credited with its discovery, this substance was indirectly used by many cultures for a considerable number of decades. In the modern era, coffee, energy drinks and medications are some common sources of mild amounts of caffeine. Though, over dosage of caffeine is often considered to an eminent threat to people's health, manufactures of above mentioned items take immense precautions to not only control the amount of caffeine in their products, but also take up certain measures to curb over-consumption. The standard behavior of caffeine in such substances is that it takes about 1 hour to affect the human system and is sustained for about 3-4 hours.

It is often commented by medical experts and psychologists that the smell and knowledge that a person has consumed coffee or energy drink, gives the consumer an instant metal alertness. Thus, the comment that a cup of coffee makes you instantly refreshed is a myth. Over dosage of caffeine usually affect nervous system, heart, brain, lungs, respiration and even urination.

Energy Drink Caffeine Content

Before I make any comment regarding the caffeine content, let me assure you that all the energy drinks that are recognized by prominent medical associations and governing bodies have a safe content of caffeine. It must be also noted that energy drinks are safe for regulated and prescribed consumption. It is advisable that you do not over consume yourself with any energy drink.

Red Bull is one energy drink that contains caffeine that is equivalent to amount contained in 1 cup of brewed coffee. A can of Red Bull contains, 72 mg per six fluid ounces of caffeine. Monster is yet, another well-known energy drink brand and contains about 80 mg per 8 ounces. The advantage of different brand is that at least you get to choose the flavors. The same is the story with Rockstar, as it contains about 80 mg per 8 ounces of caffeine. AMP, another brand, on the other hand contains about 72 mg per 8 ounces. Hence, if you are not exactly used to energy drinks, AMP will be your appropriate choice.

It must be noted that although, the extent of caffeine in energy drinks varies from brand to brand, over consumption is unhealthy. Some brands also have prescribed consumption limits printed on the containers according to the weight and age of the consumer. It best that you follow that limit.
