How to Use an Enema
Sometime, people suffering from constipation or those who need to cleanse their colon are asked to make use of enema. This article will give you adequate information on the steps that you have to follow while giving yourself an enema...

Steps for Using an Enema
An enema can be bought easily from a local drug store. You can either invest in an enema where you have to make the solution on your own, or buy a pre-packaged enema which has to be disposed after use. On the other hand, you can use the former one several times, but not before cleaning it properly after use. It is also important to make sure that the enema is not shared with any other individual for the purpose of hygiene. With this note, let us take a look at the process of using an enema yourself.
Step #1
If you have got a pre-packaged enema, you can skip this step. However, if you have just bought the equipment, you have to know the ingredients necessary to make the solution. The main ingredient in the solution that acts as a laxative is lukewarm water. The temperature of the water should be anywhere between 95 degrees F to 100 degrees F. Nevertheless, make sure that the water is not very hot. Add the juice of one lemon into the water and mix. You can also use brown vinegar instead of lemon juice, but do not use both of them together. Once this is done, fill the enema bag with this solution.
Step #2
The next step would be to find a comfortable place where you can use the enema. Though the bathroom would be the best place, it is fine to do it in any room where you can relax and be comfortable. You should place the enema bag at least 2-3 feet above you. This is essential for having a strong flow of water. Once the bag is placed in the appropriate position, remove the cap that covers the nozzle. Usually, the nozzle or the tip of the tube is covered with some kind of lubricant to make insertion easier and painless. You can also apply some lubricant on your anus. Once this is done, sit on the floor on your hands and knees. Keep your legs apart so that it becomes easy for you to insert the nozzle into your anus. Another position that you can choose while giving enemas to yourself is by lying on the side.
Step #3
After you have taken the position, the next step is to insert the nozzle of the enema into the anus. Take the nozzle in your right hand and gently push it into your anus. This can sometimes cause a little pain or a mild discomfort. Once the nozzle of the enema is inserted, squeeze the bag that contains the solution with the other. Once the entire solution is squeezed from the bag, remove the nozzle gently out of the anus. Though you will get a sensation of going to the bathroom immediately, you have to hold at least for 10-15 minutes. It is important to wait for several minutes to allow the solution to spread to the entire colon. During this time, you should continue to lie in the same position and then, gently massage your abdominal area. After giving yourself an enema, it is important that you do not leave the house for several hours as you would have the urge to use the bathroom many times.
I hope this article has been useful and informative. Though it is absolutely fine to use enema on your own, it should be done only if the doctor recommends or suggests it to you. If you experience severe pain or discomfort, during or after the use of enema, consult your doctor immediately, who will advise you about the further steps.
