Endangered Mammals

Human exploitation of nature has resulted in the endangering of many mammals. Here is a short list of the endangered mammals today.
Mammals are differentiated from other species by the ability of the females of their clan to produce milk and the existence of a vertebrate in their anatomy. A few mammals have today become endangered, mainly due human-related changes in the world. Here is a list of endangered mammals.

The African and Asian Elephants are an endangered species today. Asian elephants are generally not dangerous, but certain rogue elephants may endanger human properties and lives. The Asian elephant has mainly become endangered due to the poaching for various organs of their body. Chief amongst them is the elephant tusk, which is rumored to contain various uses, ranging from good luck charms to aphrodisiacs.

The Right Whale is also an endangered mammal. It population has dwindled over the years. Today, there only about a two hundred and fifty right whales, and their population has decreased by about twenty percent within two generations.

The Blue Whale is also an endangered mammal today. Whales have again been exploited by hunters the world over. Their endangered status is mainly due a fifty percent decrease in the whale population over the last three generations.

The Red Wolf, one of the rarest wolves is also the most endangered mammal in the world. While the Red Wolves once roamed freely over the whole of Southern United States, there are only about a two hundred and seventy Red Wolves around today.

Red Wolves were always considered a threat to agricultural lands and domestic animals, which had led to their widespread hunting. The Red Wolf has also been victim to very aggressive predator control programs.

The Amur and Anatolian Leopards are also endangered mammals. Their population has declined by a whopping eighty percent since the past three generations. The Amur Leopard is one of the rarests of the big cats today. The Amur Leopard is vulnerable to natural disasters such as fires and are also suffering from a habitat loss. They also are poached easier because they live in a forested territory, quite close to farmlands. The Anatolian leopard has less than two fifty mature individual as population today. Trophy hunting has been the main cause for the endangerment of these leopards.

The Black Rhinoceros is another endangered mammal. The Black Rhinoceros has experienced a decline of about eighty percent since the past three generations. The Black Rhinoceros has been pushed to xtinction due to loss of habitat and illegal poaching. It is poached mainly for it's horn and skin.

The Giant Armadillo has faced a decline of about fifty percent in population since the past ten years. The endangerment of the Giant Armadillo is mainly due to poaching, exploitation and loss of habitat.

The Northern Hairy nosed Wombat faces extinction and is endangered. The total population of the Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat is less than fifty mature individuals. Main reasons of its endangerment is due to depreciation of quality of habitat and a severely fragmented population.

The short tailed Chincilla is a member of the Rodentia order. It is a critically endangered and possibly extinct mammal today. The Chincilla has seen a decline of about eighty percent of its population since the past ten years. Chief reasons of its endangerment are exploitation and decline in area of occupancy.

The Manipur Brow Antlered Deer is another critically endangered mammal due to the loss of habitat and depletion of quality of habitat. There are only about two hundred and fifty living mature individuals today.

The Wild Bactrain Camel owes its endangerment to heavy exploitation and loss of habitat. A severely fragmented population has also hurt the Camel. There are about two hundred and fifty living individuals today.
