Emulators for PS3
Using emulators for PS3 you can play some of your old favorite video games that were released 20 years ago. These emulators are available online, and all you need to use them is Fedora Linux on your PS3 console.

But older games that were made for the Sony PlayStation and the PlayStation 2 are different matters altogether. Along with these, SNES games (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) and MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) games are some titles that can be played on the PS3 using emulators for PS3.
The issue of backwards compatibility comes into play when you consider the earlier versions of the PlayStation. If Sony gives gamers the option to play old games on the new console, they are effectively leading to the death of the old consoles. But this is something that should be happening, as the new consoles are far more advanced and useful anyway. Sony have realized this and have released and patented emulators for PS3 for their old games eventually. This feature of PS2 emulator for PS3 will be available in the new PS3 Slim, and all existing PS3 users will be given a system upgrade option. You can also get some PS2 game console emulators which let you play PS2 games on the PC.
Fedora Linux
The Fedora Linux is a Linux-based operating system that was released for the PS3 in 2007. This is the base for all those people who wish to expand the use of their PS3 console and translate it into a full-fledged media center. Emulators for PS3 that are available over the Internet can be made use of over this operating system only. Since most emulators easily work over Linux, and since the Fedora Linux operating system was released solely for the PS3, it makes complete sense that this was the medium that was used for running PS3 emulators.
There are some obvious disadvantages though, like inferior sound and video quality, but this is perfectly understandable. Sony though is not troubled by this threat majorly, because they feel they have nothing to fear from someone wanting to play games that are 20 years old on their advanced machines. After all, Sony are offering games of the highest 3D quality, and the games that are played using the emulators for PS3 are simply a way to pass time temporarily. For gamers though, this is a good way of playing some really old classic games. The only real threat here is to Nintendo and Microsoft, because they both plan to sell some of these old video game titles through the Virtual Console and Live Arcade respectively.
In order to make this happen on your PS3 console, you will need to download and install Fedora Linux on your console because you cannot run emulators for PS3 without Linux. Next, you will need to locate some of these emulators for PS3 over the Internet. You will easily find these and be able to install it on your machine. Be warned though, that this is an illegal activity and if Sony finds out that you are doing this, they could take drastic action. You can be assured that they will definitely nullify your warranty before anything else.
You can now play your old favorite games like Mario on the PS3, but the fact remains that this is not going to keep you entertained for a long time. These emulators for PS3 are useful, but pale in comparison to the quality of the best PS3 games that you can play on the PS3 today.
