EMR Software, Time For a Change
New technological advancements are happening all the time in the health care industry. But what about its process for sharing and storing information? The age old process of pen and paper is still being used today. Are electronic medical records the future for the health care industry? Read this article to find out.
Is the healthcare industry losing their memories of yesterday? There was a period in earth history where paper was the key source of keeping track of important records and it was the only way to store important information. It seems like even today, the same type of thing is happening in the health industry. So therefore the answer to my question is a very loud no. Medical records are still being used as the key source for tracking patient history and other vital information.
There are many negative aspects to paper, especially when comparing it to a digital record. Paper has no built in security devices; paper will not obligate someone to fill it out in the exact format, once a piece of paper is filled out with pen, there is no going back on what has been written.. What can possibly be done for the health care industry which has been making important advances in technology but has done practically nothing for it's system of recording information? The remedy? Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and Medical Practice Management Software.
Congress has been working to allow interoperability between medical practices and hospitals to allow them to easily and quickly transfer medical records. An emr system is being worked out so that no matter where a hospital receives its emr software, all emr systems will be able to function with one another to allow the transfer of crucial information.
Most software comes with voice recognition capabilities that will utterly obliterate the need for transcription of your dictations. It would very well be of use to a business to be able to recognize where their consumers face the majority of holdups in their system. Once a problem is found a solution to make it better can be a reached thus making the entire process faster to navigate. Patients' visits then become more satisfying. The proper EMR software allows ways to keep a record of that type of important information and can lead you to beneficial and productive solutions.
EMR Software runs off of a tablet PC which give the doctor the option of carrying it into a patient's room. Using this software a doctor will be able to fill a prescription order from his tablet pc so that it is ready to go as soon as the patient leaves his office. That alone is a feature sure to astonish any patient. This new technology will help to label any office as a forward thinking, technologically advanced practice.
What are the cons of using emr software? There aren't many really, but you do have to consider the time it would take to train your staff on using the new software. However, if you find the right emr software, it has become very user-friendly.
The pros and cons should be evaluated when researching an electronic medical records system. I'm certain however, that as you find out information on any emr system, you will find that the pros far outweigh the cons. Patients feel more at ease when knowing that their medical records are made readily available.
