Emma's Story
Prologue to Emma's Story.
The only reason my dad would ask me to have dinner with me is to tell me bad news. He's not the kind of dad that bonds with their daughter.
"So what do you think of Anna?" My dad asked. This was probably the whole reason were sitting here at this small restaurant.
"I have told you before dad." I said.
"And that was?"
"She's not very uh...how do I put this? I know, let's use the best word you can understand - how about nice?" I said with a major attitude. Anna was my dad's girlfriend for about one year. Trust me I have tried everything to break them up, that girl is invincible. I've told her that my dad was seeing another girl and even left a voicemail on my home phone so that when she heard it, she would immediately leave. But it was like she knew it was me. She just deleted the voicemail and went on, as she heard nothing.
He made a small giggle as to say 'you're so funny, now tell me the truth.' or 'you're making my life very stressful, I'm only laughing to make this conversation not awkward.'
"Well, I told Anna that I love her, and she loves me." He said holding his ring finger. He did not do the unthinkable...did he?
"Hi, I'm Kathy, I'll be your waiter, and can I start you off with a drink?" She asked in a polite tone. Probably wanted a bigger tip than necessary.
"Water." I said when she looked at me.
"Can I have a Diet Pepsi?" My dad asked. "Oh, and just ignore Emma, she's in a bad mood." My father added unnecessarily.
"Anyway, I asked Anna to marry me, and she said yes."
Just then guess who walked in. Could that be rehearsed any better? I rolled my eyes and got up.
"Where are you going?" My dad asked with anger in his voice.
"Well, since Anna's here, I figured you too could have dinner together, as an engaged couple." That was... clever. I walked out into the humid night. It was unusually dark that night. I walked down the street, and it was quite, creepy, everything was black.
Then, I heard a noise. It was someone running. I could hardly hear. I turned around in fear of what I might find... and there was nothing, absolutely nothing was there. I heard it again; it was haunting me like a dream, like a nightmare. This time there was a body on the ground. I ran over, not knowing what to expect. It was a man; he was maybe my age, maybe older. I felt something on my face, water. It started to rain, the rain thickened and poured. Could this not be the perfect scene in a movie?
"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" He was just lying there; I heard no heartbeat. I stood up dialed my phone, then something grabbed me. I screamed. I repeated over and over "please don't kill me, please don't kill me." I suddenly felt a hard hit against the back of my head and my vision immediately went black.
