Email Marketing Tips - Making Money from Freebie Hunters

This article discusses how you can monetize an email list that consists mainly of freebie seekers.
As email marketers we all want to build as large a list as we possibly can. The theory is that a bigger list equates to bigger profits. While this may be true to a certain extent the fact is that the vast majority of email lists largely consist of freebie hunters who will probably never ever buy from you.

Ideally you want to build an email list consisting of proven buyers, but most people naturally build up huge lists that consist mainly of freebie hunters. This is hardly surprising really because in order to get people on their list to begin with, most people will usually give away a free gift of some description as an incentive.

So therefore you really need to find a way of making money from these people otherwise you will end up paying excessive costs for an over sized list that isn't making you very much money. Luckily there are a few effective methods you can use.

The first method is to simply use your email messages to direct these people to monetized pages of your website or blog. In other words you send them to pages that contain prominently placed pay-per-click advertisements such as Google Adsense. That way the only action you require from them is to click on an ad that is next to your content. You don't need them to buy anything at all in order to earn you money.

This is my favorite way of monetizing a list of freebie seekers and it is generally very effective. You just need to ensure that you're actually sending them to pages that contain useful content as well otherwise they may unsubscribe from your list.

Another good way of monetizing a list of freebie hunters is to promote products or services that pay you a commission for every lead you generate. A lot of the people on your list who are reluctant to spend money with you will have no problems filling in a short form that may only require a name and email address, for example.

So overall you really shouldn't despair if you have built up a large list of prospects and are not making as much money as you would like. You just need to get a little creative. I have a lot of freebie seekers on my own email lists but I will always try and make some money out of these people by sending them to pay-per-lead companies or by sending them to pages on my website that contain pay-per-click ads. It's a lot easier to get people to click on an ad or fill in a short form that it is to actually entice them to buy a product.
