Email Campaigns and Video: 3 Reasons Why You Should Go for It
Video has become a very intrinsic part of the Web 2.0 experience. In fact, if all the other facts of Web 2.0 were taken away completely, video would be the one thing that would probably make the biggest come back. Streaming video is a product of the increasing use of broadband and is so powerful that it is used as a news, advertising, and social networking medium. Needless to say, business cannot afford to ignore this medium anymore and will have to cater to this form of advertising as well. While this revolution may take some time to gather speed, email campaigns that use video have already begun. This combined with the power of email campaign software allows advertisers to go well into the realm of overshadowing offline advertising as well. It must be remembered that traditional TV mediums like cable and satellite are now more restrictive at allowing user access while the internet is completely open to one and all.

Video combines two forces in one file: imagery and audio. Traditionally, most campaign material consisted of text and images. While this suited the purpose at the time, considering the bandwidth restrictions, the new age of web technologies has necessitated a change here as well. Though the technology to embed video in email campaign material existed for a while, rampant abuse by spammers meant that restrictions had to be enforced. Email campaign software helps in reducing the stigma of being a spammer for most genuine sellers of products and services but doesn’t completely protect emails from avoiding the spam folder.

The advent of streaming media is one of the top reasons for using video in emails now. Since there is no need to attach a weighty file, and considering the ease of download, flash movies streamed in to a desktop are a viable option. Though most email clients would probably block out most downloadable material in an email, these settings can be changed if the users sees benefit in doing so.

Probably the most important and sealing argument for the use of video in a mailer is the time savings for the user. Video clips that are just one minute run time can be equivalent to the power of a half a page of continuous text information. Besides, the visual appeal itself is worth the effort of shooting a video, encoding it, creating a mailer and then sending it across to potential buyers of the product.

The only drawback of using video in email campaigns is the accessibility aspect. Your email campaign software might therefore get your foot in the door but if your client is not able to access the video due to bandwidth or other restrictions, it is safe to say that the investment has gone down the drain.
