Ellen DeGeneres to Marry Girlfriend

DeGeneres’ announcement came on the heel so of the news that California’s Supreme Court overturned a law banning gay marriage. DeGeneres said to the studio audience, "I’m very excited." She also said, "It’s something that we’ve wanted to do and we want it to be legal and we are very, very excited." A beaming De Rossi was in the audience when DeGeneres made the announcement and the crowd reportedly broke out into applause and gave the couple a standing ovation.

DeGeneres, 50, and de Rossi, 35, reportedly met in March 2004 during a photo shoot. Nine months later they ran into one another at VH1’s "Big in 2004" awards show and soon after began dating. De Rossi moved into DeGeneres’ mansion weeks later and the two have been together ever since. The couple lives in Beverly Hills and has three dogs and four cats. DeGeneres said of de Rossi, "She’s taught me lessons about myself, and I feel like I’ve taught her. We’ve both changed and grown, and we just feel like, ‘Oh, okay, this is completion.’"

In October, it was rumored that the couple’s relationship was on the rocks and that they were on the verge of calling it quits. DeGeneres’ spokeswoman, Kelly Bush, slammed the reports calling the tabloid reports "fabricated and false." She added, "If you believe these ‘reliable sources’ Ellen and Portia have also had several weddings, adopted a baby AND are pregnant." Well, now they can have their wedding and eat their wedding cake, too!
