Elixir

A girl and her abusive boyfriend…
You sit in the corner
In that old room
You never felt at home
In the darkened house

You only see pain
And that's all to be seen
In your eyes
In your dreams

You hear the stairs creek
As you tremble with fear
Hoping it's not your boyfriend
Who had been in for a year

He abused you
And tore you
Inside and out
He kept you inside with all the harm

He pushed you down
And pinned you to the bed
He forced it and meant it
And broke your heart
Over again

He pushed and pressured
Until you were pulled apart
You scream and shout
Struggle and scratch

Though no one can hear you
As he puts a hand to your mouth
Your cut and strangled
You’re thrown about

Your eye is blacked
Your cheek is bruised
As he backs up to leave
Takes a drink of his elixir
And glares and leaves

You curl up on the ground
And cry out loud
Feeling used and betrayed
As you bring yourself down

Why hadn't you listened
Why hadn't you cared
Your friends wouldn’t lie
Yet here you are
Wanting to die
