Elisha (Prologue and Chapter 1)

Elisha is a vampire who comes in contact with a newly widowed human named Sydney. Enjoy how their story unfolds.
Prologue

The tunnel was dark, dripping with dew from the night before. Mold clung to the little pebbles embedded into the dirt of the tunnel’s walls. The smell of mildew mixed with rot was lingering in the air when two dark bodies appeared in the tunnel.

One of the men was tall and broad. This man was definitely younger than the shorter man who hobbled beside him.

"We must wait for dusk," one of the men spoke. "But the thirst is so strong I cannot fight it off much longer," replied the other. "You must be strong. Remember what Mona said, the darkness is the only camouflage we have." "Yes I understand but why? I don’t understand why we can’t walk among the humans."

Chapter 1

"Where is he?" Sydney frantically asked.

The elegant banquet hall was fashioned in baby blue. The sound of guests arriving was revealed by the popping sounds of Champaign bottles. Already the waiters and waitresses were beginning to set the extravagant tables with kitchen ware that matched the event. The aroma of chicken parmesan and cooked vegetables was in the background. Banners were strung in every doorway. They all revolved around the same theme, a wedding rehearsal.

Gabriel Martin and Sydney Blanche were to be betrothed in 2 days and today was their wedding rehearsal, but something was wrong.

Sydney frantically paced back and forth in the small space of the back hallway leading to the kitchen. "Where could he be?" she asked again. "Don’t worry," Sydney’s mother replied. "He is probably caught up at work." Feeling a bit relieved, Sydney calmed down and stated angrily, "Well I guess I’m in this alone, but he better have an explanation." Her mother joked, "I hope he doesn’t miss the ceremony."

Sydney returned to the already hectic rehearsal but she still didn’t feel right. She couldn’t help to wonder where Gabriel was. He was always so precise and responsible, so why hasn’t he called her yet to let her know where he was.

Sydney’s mind wondered back to reality as her niece knocked over an expensive statue. Thank god it didn’t break. That reminded her about Gabriel and herself, every time something bad happened they got over it, nothing ever stopped them before so what could stop them now. Now that she reassured herself that there was nothing wrong, she returned to the evening.
