It's your house and there are two families staying under the same roof; one your own and other the rodent family. The rodent family includes the rats and the mouse, the ones who will burrow themselves under the wooden boards or somewhere else and then come out, mainly at night and nibble on your food, your shoes, your clothes or anything they can let their tiny paws on. There are of course, several ways to get rid of rats and mouse, such as rat poison, mouse traps, pest control and so on, but some of these methods have certain disadvantages. It's dangerous to put out the rat poison here and there, specially if there are kids or pets in the house, the chemicals that are sometimes used to kill these rodents might affect human health too and so on. Hence it is best that one uses an electric rat trap. Wondering whether these traps work or not? Of course they do, depending of course on the quality of the trap. You will get several traps in your nearest store and if you are wondering how the whole thing works, then just keep reading.

How Does the Trap Work

Using the electronic trap is one of the best rodent control method. The trap works in a simple manner. They are safe and even if we accidentally touch one of these when it's on, we will not get electrocuted. There are several such traps that are available in the market. All you have to do is get one from the market, place it against the wall and then just switch it on. The trap will look like a mailbox, but it's highly effective. There is a trap which has a bait to attract the rat towards it, and this trap has a highly advanced circuit technology which can sense when a rat enters the unit. As soon as the rat enters the trap and touches the metal plate that are present within the trap, a high voltage current (around 8500 volts) is passed, and the rat is electrocuted. The rat dies within a few seconds, a quick and painless death.

Rats, as you must already be aware of, can restart their heart after they have received an electrical shock, hence there are chances that the rat might come back to life just few seconds after it has received the shock. To be absolutely sure that the rat really is dead, this trap applies the shock for at least 2 minutes. After the rat has been killed, a green light will goes on which indicates that the rat is dead and ready to be thrown away. You can then easily dump this dead rat in the trash without even looking at them. This is an effective method of rodent control.

Things to Keep in Mind

There are certain pointers that you need to keep in mind while using an electric trap. First is that this is mainly for indoor purposes. As bait you can probably use peanut butter, the smell of which is sure to attract the rat towards the trap. These traps requires batteries and these batteries are sometimes not included with the product. If you ask whether this is a humane traps or not, then I would say that it depends on what you think. If you think that it's humane to kill the rat with a quick jolt rather than having to beat it to death with a broomstick, then this is a humane trap. You should however keep these traps out of reach from children and pets, because if the trap is on then there is a chance of them getting electrocuted or if the dead rat is in there, still not taken out, then they might try and pull it out.

You can also try out homemade mouse traps that can also be used to capture these rodents.
