Ego
Human ego is never satiated. 'I' is fed till it gets so obese that all else fails to exist. Surely we are meant for much more.

'I' have to be in frame,
If 'I' am ever called upon,
'I' lead in very game.
Words hurt the 'I' in me,
And praise soothes the 'I',
'I' take much time to see,
The important 'I' tie!
'I' am this and 'I' am that,
'I' have to shine and show,
'I' must wear every hat,
That fits my head, you know!
You speak kind words, 'I' am pleased,
You hurl insult and 'I' hurt and bleed,
Your sarcasm has my breath squeezed,
Your reaction sows potential seed.
Human EGO is quick to feed,
So cheap, it takes a-buttering,
It warms up to flowery deed,
Sends happy 'I' a-stuttering.
Instead of Edging God Out,
Take a look around and try,
To think beyond the stout,
Fluff-and-bother called 'I'.
And, if in God you don't rest,
Then too, look at what can be,
If only you can deeply nest,
Beyond the ever pompous 'me'.
