Effective Power

Do money give the power? Does the political status bring power? Money goes; everything is subject to change under the sun. The One Who has real power is God and He gives it as He pleases.
Effective Power
When we take a look at the word might in the Bible we can find many different things that are said about it. Who has that effective power? Who does not, and how can we get it? These are all questions that we can ask and find the answers for in the Bible.

First of all, let’s take a look at the first question; Who has that effective power, who has that might? Well the Bible tells us that God is the only one with true power, He is the Only One. "And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? And rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee." II Chronicles 20:6

Here we can see the irresistible might and power of the Lord our God, we can see that not only is He God in heaven but also the Lord rules over all the kingdoms and that there is power and might in his hand, nobody is able to stand up against Him. What is funny is how so many people try and fail, so many people take a stand that there is no God and other such nonsense, but when the Day of Judgment comes I am sure that they will begin to think differently. God is the only one here that has any real power and it is about time that people start to recognize that fact….the power of God is so great and so far above everything that we can even imagine that it seems strange at times that we fail to recognize it, even us Christians.

Another aspect of the words power and might that we find in the Bible is how we humans have power and what it can do to us. Turn to Deuteronomy 8:17
"And thou shalt say in thine heart, mine power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: or it is he that giveth power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto his fathers, as it is this day."

How many poor people in this world are considered powerful? How many beggars are respected and treated as if the world was in their hands? None. Generally the people that are considered powerful are the ones that have the money to back it up, and then there are the people that just think that they are powerful. Here we can find in the above verses a very clear warning to all those that begin to take God out of the equation and think that they have reached that place that they are in, no matter how high or low, a place that they have gotten to without God…or in other words, through their own power.

God is the one that allows a person to reach his position of might, God is the one that raises that person up .That person would not be where he is if it were not for the Lord, but we humans have this little nagging problem that is constantly getting us into trouble…its called pride, we get to our high place and start to think and reach the conclusion that it was not God that put us there, we begin to think that this is a place that we have gotten to on our own…that is when the trouble starts (not to mention the fact that wealth and status in a community cannot even be counted as true power).

"But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord." Micah 3:8
Here we can see were true spiritual power comes from, not from our wealth not form our status…it comes from God, when we give ourselves over to the Lord, He is able to start working in us to make us more like Christ, HE will take out the things of the world and in their place fill us up with Christ. We have to humble ourselves and give ourselves over to Him completely, because if we let pride get in the way then we will not see ourselves as the weaklings that we are and we will not see our Lord as the mighty, powerful God that He is.
