Effective Communication in Relationships
The success of any relationship is greatly dependent on the communication between the two partners. While in a relationship, it is of utmost importance to convey your true feelings to your partner. However, the response of your partner would greatly depend upon how you convey those feelings. It is important that you listen to your partner and take his/her point into consideration. Explain your point of view clearly without launching a personal attack on your partner. Avoid bringing up past issues into your discussion as it tends to cloud your judgment and leaves the main relationship issue unresolved. Also, try to be as civil as possible and avoid offensive remarks under all circumstances. Respect your partner's opinion and come to an amicable compromise. If you think you are likely to say something which you'll regret later, take a break from the discussion and resume only when you have regained control over your temper.
Effective Communication at Workplace
Workplace communication plays a vital role in your professional life. The way you talk is as much important as your work, if not more. You can be less talented but you ought to know how to make effective communication in the workplace. Your career prospects in an organization are greatly influenced by your communication and relationship with other employees as well as management. Nobody wants to hire a rude, snobbish person, no matter how skilled he is at his job. You have to be polite, courteous and respectful while talking to your clients or any employee. At workplace, you will find people coming from various backgrounds with varied mindsets. It is impossible to hit it off with all of them. However, it is possible to maintain cordial relations even with those whom you dislike. Avoid discussing controversial topics with them, if you know that it could trigger an argument. If you find yourself amidst a heated discussion, avoid taking sides and offer a neutral opinion. Do not offend even those who are much junior to you. While talking to your superiors make sure you express your point with as much clarity as you can.
Importance of Good Communication Skills for Teachers
As teachers you are blessed with an opportunity to influence young minds in a positive way. Kids are like sponge, absorbing everything around them with apt attention. Hence, every word that you utter is going to be etched in their young minds forever. Choose your words properly while talking to kids. Body language also plays a crucial role while communicating with kids. Always offer words of encouragement and hope to kids. Do not belittle or worse, threaten kids as that could affect their psyche forever. Using crude, offensive language is out of question if you are a teacher. Although, it is good to be strict, it is certainly not acceptable to be intimidating. As a teacher you can also influence the personalities of your students by demonstrating effective ways of communication. Introduce your kids to the delights of language by incorporating unusual words in your vocabulary. However, that does not mean load your conversation with heavy duty stuff that your kids will simply fail to decipher. Teaching effective communication skills to your students by setting an example yourself is a great thing you can do.
The goal of communication should be solving problems and not winning the argument. Your body language is an integral part of your communication, hence adopt appropriate body language while talking.
