Educational Videos Make Learning Fun and Interesting

Kids should always be encouraged to ask questions, and educational videos are quite helpful in answering their questions. Watching videos on science, math, language and other subjects make the learning process interesting, intuitive and quite effective.
Educational Videos Make Learning Fun and Interesting
Kids have an amazing curiosity to know about our natural world. As parents, we have all heard questions like 'How hot is the Sun?', 'How do the germs look like?', 'Why does the moon change?', and hundreds of similar questions that only a kid can ask. Even though it is sometimes difficult to answer these in a way a small child can understand, it is extremely important to nourish the child's curiosity with encouragement. Learning is largely a function of a child's curiosity and that is when he or she is most receptive.

Well, as grown-ups, we know most of us lost that curious nature somewhere along the way as we grew up. Maybe it was the burden and methods of traditional education, or maybe, it was just a part of growing up, we can't say. But, it is clear that our kids live in a vastly different technology driven competitive world. While the questions may not have changed much since we were kids, the kind of answers our kids receive today can be far better. When they ask, where the Earth came from, you can actually play a 10 minute video that shows a simulation of the solar system, with Sun and planets, forming from a giant cloud of stellar dust. Or, when they ask, what germs are, you can show them videos with complete 3D details of live microorganisms at a very high resolution. Compare that to the verbal answers you would have been told as a kid.

Kids learn best when they can 'see' how things work and why they happen. Educational videos are a great way to help answer a child's questions by showing him or her the details visually, making it easier to understand. Learning by seeing is far more effective than learning by reading and hearing, and helps kids to visualize the world around them correctly and intuitively. When kids watch educational videos on physical sciences, life sciences and earth science, it makes the learning process interesting and enables them to think scientifically. Other subjects such as math, languages and social studies can also be taught and made interesting with the help of educational videos. For example, videos on carry and borrow arithmetic techniques, multiplications, story-based reading and comprehension, videos on geography, culture, places and events, can all make even the least interesting topics come alive and fun to learn. Moreover, these videos can be shown multiple times till the child understands and learns the concepts properly.

NeoK12 is a website with a good collection of free educational videos on science, math, language, social studies and other subjects for K-12 school kids. The videos have been selected and reviewed for accuracy by K-12 teachers and cataloged by subjects and topics. Watch them at home or at school to help your kids learn and understand better.
