Eddie Murphy & Tracey Edmonds Split

Murphy, 46, and Edmonds, 40, held a wedding ceremony on New Year’s Day on a private island off Bora Bora. The ceremony was not legally binding, but the couple said that they were going to hold a legal ceremony upon returning to the States. Apparently, between the wedding ceremony and the end of the honeymoon things apparently went sour. Murphy and Edmonds released a statement Wednesday that read, "After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forgo having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further. While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends."

Wow…that was a quick one! It has been reported that Murphy and Edmonds began butting heads over the fact that she refused to take his last name. A source reportedly said, "He was insisting she change her name. It was a huge issue. They were arguing about it before they left for the wedding." A source said that the couple spent their first week of marriage arguing with one another. Lucky for them they never made their union legal…now they won’t have to worry about divorce court!

Murphy and Edmonds began dating since the fall of 2006 and got engaged last July. Murphy was reportedly still involved with Spice Girl Melanie Brown when he began seeing Edmonds. Brown gave birth to Murphy’s baby in April. He was previously married to model Nicole Mitchell. Murphy and Mitchell divorced after thirteen years in April 2006. The couple has five children together. Edmonds was married to producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. They divorced in June 2006 after thirteen years and two children together.
