Easy to Make Musical Instruments
There are innumerable easy to make musical instruments, that you can try out at home. These can serve as small art and craft assignments for your kids. Imagine the cheerful smiles on the faces of your kids, when they are playing these 'easy to make musical instruments', for which you did not even have to pay a single buck.
Drum
This is definitely the simplest and yet the most enjoyed musical instrument that you can manufacture for a kid. So what do you need to get the task done? All you need is a cylindrical shaped container (with cover), two small sticks, a long string, some decorating paper and some glue. Wrap up the cylindrical container with the decorating paper using the glue. Now make a hole at the center of the cover of the container and the base of the container. Insert the string through the hole made in the lead of the container and take it out from the hole made at the base. Now tie the ends of the string, so that your child can hang the drum at his neck while playing it. That's it. The drum is ready and your child can play it with the two sticks.
Homemade Guitar for Kids
All you need is an empty cereal or shoe box. If it is a shoe box, fix the cover along with the box, using glue or an adhesive tape. Now cut a hole of around 6 cms in diameter, at the center of the box. Stretch some rubber bands from one end of the box to the other. Take care that the rubber bands do not break. You can also decorate the homemade guitar with some decorating paper. But you need to do so before tying the strings. This completes the guitar construction procedure. What next? Just hand it over to your kid and watch him or her have fun with it.
Shakers
This is yet again, one easy to make musical instrument that does not require any hard work or time. All that you need to do is simply fill in some grains of uncooked rice or barley into a plastic egg. Hand it over to your kid and watch the excitement on his or her face.
Musical Sticks
This is another simple and interesting musical instrument. You need two wooden skewers and twenty to thirty wooden beads of approximately half inch diameter. Cut the sharpened ends of the wooden skewers and thread the wooden beads in equal numbers on both of them. Now rescue the ends with carpenter's glue at both the ends. On rubbing the two sticks with the beads, you will get the sound that crickets make. This is of course something different and your kids will definitely enjoy it.
Flute
Flute music is perhaps the sweetest of all music types. All you need to make a flute of your own, is a cardboard tube, some wax paper and a rubber band. You can also use some decorating paper or paint to decorate your flute. Cut the cardboard tube into half. You can decorate the cardboard tube with the decorating paper or the paint that you have with you. If you have decided to paint the cardboard tube, allow it to dry before starting off with the next step. Once the cardboard tube is dry, cut three or four holes on the cardboard tube in a straight line. Seal one end of the cardboard tube with butter paper and rubber band. It is a mouth instrument, so just blow some air from one end and listen if you get a proper whistling sound. If not, clear the holes you have made and tighten the butter paper sealed at the end. If you get the whistling sound, then you have just created the flute, that your kids wanted.
These easy to make musical instruments are the best ways to teach children some art and craft. Even better, make only one of these musical instruments and ask your kids to use their creativity to make their own musical instrument. This way you will not only sow the seeds of music into your kids, but also bend their minds towards trying out some new kid's crafts.
