Pot roast is a method of slow cooking used for braising the beef or any type of large meat chunks. Pot roasting is also the best way to preserve the natural flavor and taste of the beef. It is basically a food recipe that is made by using the chuck cut of the beef that is actually the size of a roast. Chuck cuts are available in both boneless and bony textures. Pot roast recipes are very popular. They are easy to make and taste delicious as well. One can also make pot roasts using the crock pot. Easy Pot Roast Recipe : Basic
Ingredients
  • 1 pot roast (3 to 4 lbs)
  • Cream of mushroom soup (undiluted)
  • 6 potatoes
  • Water
  • Dry onion soup mix
  • 6 carrots
  • Mixture of water and flour (2 tbsp flour+1/4 cup old water)
  • 2 tablespoon oil
Procedure
Take a large skillet and brown roast the meat and place it aside in a dry bowl. Remove the excessive oil and add the dry onion soup mix and the mushroom soup and a cup full of water into the pan. Heat the pan until the mixture boils and then add the pot roast to it. Cover the pan and simmer the mixture for at least 2 hours. Meanwhile keep turning sides of the pot roast from time to time. Now add carrots and potatoes (peeled and cut in quarters) to it and cook for another 40 minutes. Take out the pot roast and vegetables on a serving dish. Add the flour mixture to the remnant of the soup in the pan and stir well. Put this thickened sauce over the pot roast and the vegetables and serve garnished with your favorite herb!

Easy Pot Roast Recipe : Sweet and Sour
Ingredients
  • 1 pot roast (4 lbs)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 2/3 cup of vinegar
  • 1/2 brown sugar (light)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Flour
  • Pepper and salt
  • Allspice
  • 2 tablespoons oil
Procedure
Brown roast the meat in a bowl and set it aside. Add onion and cook until onion gets tender. Add salt to taste with a little bit of pepper. Add brown sugar, vinegar, allspice and water to it and cover the skillet. Simmer this mixture for about 4 hours. Remove the meat in a serving dish and add a mixture of two tablespoon of flour and water to the remnant of the gravy. Thicken the gravy and pour it over the pot roast and serve!

Easy Pot Roast Recipe : Vegetables
Ingredients
  • 1 pot roast (3 lbs)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon of leafy thyme (crumbled)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon of marjoram leaves
  • 2 tablespoon of margarine
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 10 small white onions
  • 8 medium sized carrots (halved)
  • A can of condensed beef broth
  • Ground black pepper
  • 1 small rutabaga
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • Water and salt
Procedure
Heat both margarine and oil together in a skillet over medium heat and brown roast it for at least 20 minutes. Make sure all the sides of the pot roast have turned brown in color. Add all the spices (thyme, bay leaf, marjoram), onion, garlic, black pepper and a bit of salt to the pan and cook for 30 seconds. Mix beef broth to it and bring the mixture to boil. Reduce the heat and simmer the mixture for 2 hours by covering the pan. Add small onions, rutabaga and carrots to it. Cover the pan and cook for 30 seconds more. Transfer the cooked meat and vegetables in a serving dish and start preparing the sauce by using the remnant of the gravy. Add the mixture of flour and water to the gravy and stir it until you get a smooth texture. Serve the pot roast, it's ready!
