Origami Flower Instructions

The instructions mentioned below are easy to understand and follow. If you make a mistake somewhere, just start fresh with a new piece of paper. Don't forget to get colorful papers to make the origami flower. Easy and simple ways of folding paper can be very interesting and rewarding, once you master them.

Origami Sunflower
  • Place a 6 inch square gold paper flat on your workstation. If you are using a paper which only has one side colored, then place the colored side facing down.
  • Fold the paper in half, horizontally and make a crease on the centerline. Unfold the paper and fold the paper in half, vertically. Make another crease and unfold the paper.
  • Now fold each corners at a time and make them meet in the center of the square paper. The shape of the gold paper will resemble a diamond.
  • Reopen the folded paper so that it comes back to its original shape, a square. Each flap of paper will be folded downward just an inch. This will be done from the folded outside edge of the square.
  • As you turn the paper upside down, you can see the head of the sunflower is ready.
  • Now take another 6 inch square green paper and fold it diagonally. The lower right corner will come up to meet the upper left corner. Fold, crease in the center, and unfold the paper.
  • The bottom edge of the green paper will be folded at approximately 45º angle. This will show a diagonal crease line.
  • Now that you have a new bottom edge, you will fold it up the same way to get a new crease line. The left side of the paper will fold down at approximately 45º angle as well. This will show a diagonal crease line.
  • Now the bottom point of the green paper will be folded up, about halfway through the paper. Turn the piece upside down.
  • The pointed end will be the stem and the other part will be the leaf. Tape the sunflower head to the end of the stem. Your simple origami flower is ready.
Origami Lily
  • Take a 6 inch square orange paper and place the colored side facing down on your workstation. Fold two tips of the paper diagonally and then unfold the paper.
  • Turn the paper upside down, so that the white side is showing. Bring all four corners in to meet at the centerline. Make a crease and unfold the paper back to its original form, in a square.
  • Now change the square shape into a rectangle by folding the paper sideways in half. Unfold the paper and do the same by folding the paper down. Don't unfold the paper now.
  • Hold the paper in your hands and fold it down the middle. Turn the paper around in your hand so that the open edges are facing you. There should be two flaps on both the sides.
  • Use your right finger to part the right side of the flap and bring it to the middle of the paper. Press the right flap down.
  • Follow the same "parting the side" instruction with the other three sides. As you finish, you will see that there are four sides with white triangles.
  • Once you are done with all the four sides, fold each sides and bring them to the centerline. Unfold the sides again.
  • Use your right finger and hold the flap in the middle. Pull on it and bring it upwards. Press it and make it flat. The shape should look like a kite now.
  • Fold this part down and repeat the same thing for the rest of the three sides. Start with the white triangles and work your way in.
  • As you finish, you can see that the open sides are facing you, so turn the paper upside down. Fold the inner most sides down the middle and do the same for the other three sides.
  • Once you are finished, take the top part of the paper and fold it down. Do the same with the rest of the three sides.
  • When all four sides are finished, hold the origami lily in your right hand and open the petals.
  • Take a pencil and curl the edges of the petals downward. This will give the lily a beautiful shape.
