Ear pain may develop due to various reasons and is considered to be one of the most excruciating types of pain. Let us take a look at some of the ear pain home remedies.
Ear pain is common among people, especially kids. There can be many reasons for the occurrence of ear pain, such as internal or external conditions. This condition may develop as a result of inner ear problems or some medical condition outside the ear, like tonsil or sinus infections. Whatever may be the cause, ear pain can affect your normal day-to-day activities, as it can become unbearable for most people. Mild cases can be cured with some home remedies for ear pain, whereas severe cases need immediate medical attention. If there is no relief for mild ear pain even after taking natural remedies for ear pain, then you have to consult a doctor at the earliest.

Home Remedies for Ear Pain

Ear pain may develop due to various reasons, like allergies, sinus or tonsil infections, any foreign object stuck in the ear, accumulation of earwax or any other fluid, cold, ear infections, tooth infections, changes in air pressure (common during air travel), etc. There is a wide array of home remedies which are meant to provide ear pain relief. The following is a list of home remedies for ear pain.
  • One popular home remedy for ear pain is the use of hot compresses. Soak a towel in hot water and squeeze it tightly to remove excess water. Now, press this warm towel over the affected ear. You can also warm the towel with an iron.
  • Some people use warm oil to get relief from ear pain. All you have to do is heat olive oil with grated onion, until the latter turns brown. Now, strain the oil and add two drops of this lukewarm oil to the ear. Make sure that the oil is not too hot.
  • Another method is to add some finely chopped garlic and two, three drops of tea tree oil to a small bottle of extra virgin olive oil. Strain the oil after one week and store it. Whenever you get affected by ear pain, pour two drops of this oil (warm) in the ear.
  • One of the popular ear pain home remedies is the juice of fresh basil leaves. Add two drops of basil juice to the affected ear.
  • Garlic juice and lime juice are believed to be good for ear pain relief. Crush some fresh garlic cloves and extract the juice. Pour two drops into the ear, in case of ear pain. The same quantity applies to lime juice too.
  • Another method to use garlic for ear pain is by crushing some boiled garlic cloves with a pinch of salt and applying the poultice over the affected ear.
  • Tender mango leaves are also used in the treatment of ear pain. You have to take the juice of tender mango leaves and pour two drops in the ear. Some people use the juice of bay leaves for this purpose.
  • You can also put a few drops of vodka to a cotton ball and apply it over the ear. Apple cider vinegar is also believed to be one of the home remedies for earache. You can add two drops to the affected ear.
Even though, home remedies are reported to be useful in easing ear pain, there is no scientific backing to prove the efficacy of these ear pain home remedies. You can try these methods in case of mild ear pain, but severe ones should be treated as per the instructions of a doctor. And in case of earache in children, it is always better to avoid home remedies.
